A lot of people posting on here do not seem to understand the design of this Hawk. Mr. LaGana designed this Hawk as a combat weapon, not a thrower. It may look cool in the movies but you almost NEVER throw away your last ditch hand weapon, knife or Hawk, when fighting for your life. The shorter handle works better for close in fighting. It is not a camp ax per se, although it could be used for very light camp use. It is for fighting and it should be reviewed and interpreted that way. I would like to see it have a better handle material choice and method of blade retention. I will be getting one of these and that will be my modification and sharpening the underbelly for hooking.Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes

I bought this as a thrower and it broke after about ten throws. I would not recommend this product. I do recommend BudK because they are taking very good care of me since I am unhappy with this product.

ok, first off the package came way sooner than expected, second the back spike on the back rocks! its also balanced for throwing(if you are into that like i am) and even if you didn't throw it it would be great for defense as well as a hatchet ( though not on large logs, all in all great tool

I've never gone wrong when it comes to united cutlery. So this is my first tomahawk and I gotta say is is very impressive in weight and strength. But to tell you the truth I think I would rather use it as a self defense more then a thrower. All in all it is a very sturdy tomahawk and for the price you can't go wrong.

I have several, my favorite is from Cold Steel but when I saw this one offered for under $20.00, I decided to get it, it is well made, was somewhat sharp, handle could be a couple of inches longer, sheath is pretty decent given the price. Not sure as to strength of handle, but I bought it for inclusion in my growing collection, the Cold Steel hawk is of better quality, has carbon steel but also cost twice as much. I would not use this one for throwing BUT I would not hesitate to use it in a defensive action if it was closest item that i could get to. It makes a nice display on my home office wall with my other axes etc. Again for $20.00 you can't go wrong, very nice value.

this is a awesome hawk. great sheath. beautiful looking. and a fraction of the original, cold steel's, or American Tomahawk"s price. my only concern is the head is attached with epoxy and i have my doubts about it staying on or standing up to much abuse. i wouldn't buy this as a practice thrower or a working , camp tomahawk. but it is a great collector piece and good defense choice.

The handle broke the first day I got it. I was throwing it at a cardboard box, I missed and it hit some wood that was next to the box, I didn't throw it that hard but the handle broke off, I doubt that its impact resistant hardwood.

R.E Comment from ANG, Honolulu. In a month or two I will be coming into enough disposable (toy-buying)cash to purchase several of these. Like you, I own a SOG and a few Cold Steel Hawks but I see this one as ideal. I know of no commercial handles or sheaths to meet the needs outlined in your post, however, I have used a Mag--Lite belt ring for carrying hawks of all kinds and am satisfied for the $4 cost of the ring. The handle could be easily fashioned out of aluminum and welded in place or cross-bolted. Hope this helps. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. Please make this handle 5-6 inches longer for modern Americans. At least a way to buy a longer handle to fit in it. Other wise a nice utility hatchet.

the handle is 3/4 of an inch shorter than my original. I own a LaGana, an SOG and a couple Japanese copys. The one issued here lacks the under blade edge that allows trapping cuts but thats okay, a little work with my dremel will fix that. this is a class act . buy as many as your budget will allow!
