This is a not bad buy for $10, but don't expect too much. The hollow tube is thin and bends if you put too much force into the showel. Both the axe and showel are very dull. This set can do some job nevertheless. Makes a good gift to a boy scout.
I spend much of my time camping in the wilderness with no luxuries. I am able to clear the volcanic rocks in Flagstaff's uncampable forests, dig holes and put a hoer curtain in it to collect moisture overnight to bathe, bang in bivy-tent pegs so I can withstand winter winds and summer monsoons. Granted, its a lousy axe. But its a good, light, sturdy folding shovel. I can bury valuables and waste in my campsite too. You can not be without a shovel. This can be strapped to your pack. You really need a versatile shovel that you can chop, dig, pound and use for many purposes. Certainly worth the money- which is only like the price of a paperback, but also worth the weight. When I have to walk as much as 20 miles a day, pack weight counts....
I did feel I had to sharpen the shovel and axe to be more functional. that said, I wanted a good multi-tool to add to my scat pack. I'm not sure how this would hold up under severe heavy duty use but when you need something like this it could certainly make life easier in emergency situations. I also added a tie to the handle to secure it better so if the pack took a tumble the handle would not come out of its holder and tied it securely. if I ever have to use this for the purpose it is intended I'm sure I will be thrilled I purchased it.
the shovel and axe are okay but the knife saw and handle me I would either fill it with concrete or get another one made but it"s a nice starter set like the pouch and easy to carry thanks bud always like the specials
When I first got this I thought the hollow tube handle would probably bend and break, but then I realized it was made out of stainless steel. The hammer on the axe head is rounded but will most likely work as long as it is not precision hammering. I had to sharpen the axe head and the shovel blade, and I painted the tube handle flat black and put a rubber cap on the one end and then wrapped it with para-cord, now it is much more subdued and functional. I love the knife since it would be a great self defense weapon, it is really a nice size spear, and concealed in the handle. This is a good all purpose tool and for the price it is very hard to find anything comparable or as useful.
I like this tool the only thing I did not like was it has to be sharpened the axe and shovel I Thought it may be heaver but its all good I do like it
Pretty nice; I like the compact small case to attach to my belt or back pack when you go camping or backpacking. You do need to take the axe head and the shovel head to a grinding wheel though, in which was no problem for me because I own one. But overall I like it a lot for its compact size and easy carrying and cheap price. Thanks BudK.
At first I though the hollow handle was a problem, but the I realized it was made of stainless steel, I like having all the different tools in one compact package. I really like the knife since when attached to the handle it is more like a spear that could be used to spear fish, or for self defense. The shovel blade need to be sharpened, and the hammer on the axe is too rounded, but all in all this is a great little multiple use tool I would recommend to preppers and campers alike
I had bought this product for the axe survival aspect.I thogt it would be too large to carry! But was pleased to find it was not only foldably compact but had belt loops for easy carrying!Truth be told I have not tried it yet,but i have seen the axe & shovel very sturdy and strong. The axe is why I got it for surrvival purposes, the saw, shovel&knife are just icing on the cake!I paid about $15.00 for it and would reccomend it even at retail prices!!
Comes with a nice sheath and everything else seems to be nice and sturdy. I have not used it yet but I do feel that the shaft could be made stronger since it is hollow and it will have to take extreme blows for wood chopping.
Well I got my 6 in 1 shovel and it's a bit of a disappointment. The design is quite good but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It's just not strong/heavy enough. If CS made one of these I'd really like to have one. Both the ax blade and the shovel blade are contained in a fairly nice sheath and the knife blade and the saw blade are stored in the tubular handle. The two heads snap on to the shaft and are retained by spring loaded buttons. The knife and saw fit into the end of the handle and are also retained by the spring buttons. It's just not solid enough for the knife and saw. The ax head is made from several pieces of steel plate bent to shape and doubled over for the hammer head and the shovel blade is heavy sheet steel. It's good enough to throw behind the seat in my truck and the saw might be useful but the knife blade is pretty much junk.
