I got this about a month or so ago and it was worth the buy it has a REAL leather sheath and the blade goes through the handle so it is very durable plus it has a nice blood groove also it is very sharp so watch out for you or anything around you.
Just received my two Timber Wolf Extreme Bowie Knives. Upon out of the box, this knife is a very heavy duty knife and very suitable for a great survival knife. the blade is of a 8 inch stainless steel with a semi-reflective coating. The blade is wide about 1-3/4 inch wide and is suitable for decent chopping. The blade narrows down from about 1/4 inch thick near the tang to a 4-3/4 inch long false edge and to a very sharp point. I would give this knife a 5 star rating except for the width of the handle. The micarta like handle slabs together with tang and spacers came out a little too thick. The top edges are radiused but not sufficient and would cause blisters if performing chopping chores for long periods. I highly recommend that the manufacturers provide a heavy radius or a shaved slope at the top of the handle edges. This is really a great 5 star knife if the handle was better ergonomically designed and manufactured. I haven't yet tested it on real world cutting and chopping chores yet to be able to assess the cutting edge sharpness retention at how it react to cutting and chopping rope, wood, etc. Great product for the cost. Highly recommend it.
went ahead and got this bowie on a free shipping day. thing is very nice, very thick blade, very thick handle just how I like it..
sheath is very nice leather. very nice quality bowie, except my handle came with a crack/chip (piece of it missing) at the guard. so I'm a little upset about that.
giving it a 4 because of this issue. maybe BudK will chime in and make things right with my bowie, as I do ALOT of business with them.
Awesome knife. Heavy duty. Good quality. Yes, surprising, coming from China. But it really is. Good quality sheath too. So glad I pulled the trigger on this one. You will be too.
I have to admit, like most reviews say, I was skeptical at first when I purchased this knife because I already own several high dollar Bowies. Really, if you're on the fence about this one.... Buy it! Everything about this blade is great quality! The true full tang blade is a real chunk of steel, no BS. The blade is a great shape and length... and is REALLY thick in all of the right places. The scales (although a little beefy in my opinion, but like I said, thick piece of steel) are really nice. The sheath actually surprised me on how high quality it really is. I expected some kind of faux material stitched onto crappy foam rubber (you know what I'm talking about), but it's legit leather! All I can say is that they could charge a lot more for the quality of construction they've put into this knife! Everything from the actual full tang super thick and perfectly shaped blade to the awesome handle material with great contrasting inserts, throw in a really great sheath for the price point.... Even if you dull the edge out, it's still such a chunk of steel that you could beat something to death with it! Great knife, couldn't ask for more!
When I opened this I was surprised at the appearance, the picture makes it look like more of a "toothpick" style blade, but this is actually a very wide, full bellied knife. I've never bought a Timber Wolf before, since most of their Bowies run in the $10-20 dollar range, and I have no use for a cheap Bowie knife. The knife is very solidly made, everything about it suggests that it can take a lot of abuse. The tang is about 1/4" thick and the finger guard is even heavier. The handle is pretty massive and ideal for someone with larger hands. The sheath is of surprisingly good quality, it looks to be made out of 7 - 8 oz cowhide and is double stitched with either waxed thread or sinew, I can't tell for sure. There are a few minor cosmetic defects, such as a couple small sharp spurs that were never buffed out of the fullers, but nothing that can't be excused by the fact that this knife costs under $100. The weight makes me hesitant to recommend this as an EDC fixed blade, but if you're looking for an affordable, heavy duty camping, survival, or field knife, you could do a lot worse.
Knife is excellent, good quality blade. Handle grip is very good especially for large hands. The sheath is good except it is not from real leather. It will work for the time being but I'll likely make a new one that is worthy of the knife. So sad to say but this knife shows that China is getting pretty good with manufacturing.
This is the second one I bought, I gave the first one to my son. I had custom Leather sheaths made for them, I wish I could show pics with this review. I had the sheaths made because the knves are a ¼ inch thick and full tang so I had the sheaths made with 2 pouches side by side big enough to hold in 1 I have a Smith sharpening stone and a home mead fishing kit and the other I have a good fire stiker and a good GI can operner just in case I take this with me all the time, cuz I live in Florida you need a good woods knife here. I have used it in the bush many times and I would bet my life on this tool. The mind is tlhe best survival tool, but it never hurts to have a little help. I've been buying knives from Bud k sense 2006 and Bud k has always sent me what they advertise. So this is 3cr13 and they are real G10. This is worth the money. Thanks J.C. Hoffman
I have reviewed many knives on many sites. I always rate the knife exactly as it is and not just to go along with all the other reviews. I like one of the other reviewers got this at 30% off and the total shipped was $49.88. It was shipped fast and packaged very well. The knife;s packaging was packaged inside another box for protection. The knife itself is very large at exactly 13 inches from end to end. The blade is 8 inches long and 1/4 inches thick at the widest point. It weighed exactly 20 ounces on my scale. The knife is well crafted. The handle looks and feels like G-10. The blade is marked "Made in China Stainless Steel" so there is no way to tell if it is actually 3cR13. My knife came dull out of the box, the edge was far from razor sharp. I was able to get the majority of the blade sharp, but not the last inch near the tip of the blade. The curved part of the tip of the blade came so dull, it was not possible to get it very sharp, so I gave up. The sheath is much nicer than I expected, it is real leather and well made. The only issue with the sheath, is that the metal rivets in the snap and belt attachment protrude through inside the sheath so they can rub on the blade. I do not see this knife as a 5 star knife. I see it as exactly what it is, a large China made knife. The Chinese are getting better at making knives, but compared to the quality you see in USA made knives, it does not compare. Yes it is a large beast, but so is the BUCK 124 Frontier (at twice the price) and the Frontier puts this to shame. I do not feel this knife was worth the money that I paid for it. For some reason, I liked the looks of this knife and all the 5 star reviews swayed me into buying it. I am extremely glad that I did not pay the full price for this knife, and if I had it to do over again would not purchase it.
I finally purchased on of these knives when I got it for 30% off However, after getting it I feel I could have more than received my money's worth at the Regular price This is one heavy well made beast & I'm glad I took a chance. I highly recommend adding this to your collection or just using it in the bush
