Knife is cumbersome, at best. Not because it’s overly heavy, but more so because of the design. Handle is horribly awkward, and if you’re trying to return the blade to the sheath with one hand, ave yourself the trouble. It won’t work. For an edged weapon to be effective, it needs to work in conjunction with the overall style. This, falls flat on its face. Sheath makes it impossible for quick deployment, and god help you if you need to get this thing out of your hand and into the sheath quickly. A blade like this is useless for stabbing applications, and unless you really, REALLY, have a passion for spending a couple hours on whetstones, this thing will not slice effectively either. Neat looking? Very. Practical? Not remotely.
I will start with the cons: The blade was sturdy for a while and the tip chicks easly as well the grip tends to bend slightly, after multiple use the blade tends to shake very slight but barely noticeable, the molded grips is not made for all hand sizes.
Pros: the blade is when its sharpened it can be deadly especially when i tested it on a ballistic dummy with artificial bones in it, the blade does quite amount of damage but the edge does not hold very well and i chipped the tip when stabbing the dummy but the ring does good on durability when attempting to back swing in a stabbing motion
You get what you pay for so price for durability i would say it is a good deal!
WOW! I have no words! This is by far one of the best thing I have sent to me by BudK!! Holy Crap this tbing is wicked! I say this bc I have a lot of their merchandise! Whew!
The knives came in today. Ordered two for dual wielding and practice. They are, as always, incredibly sharp and sturdy. Like the Karambit, the grip feels very ergonomic. I even managed to cut myself because of the way the blade is curved out backwards. (I'm more used to the Aizu Ring Fighter Tanto which was discontinued and now incredibly rare.)
United Cutlery it's got a long ways to go to compete with the big boys ......The Edge on this knife is absolutely atrocious !!!!
This is an awesome knife! It's sharp and cuts very well. However you decide to hold it. And for the price, it's great. I love the leather sheath it came with. Thanks BudK!
I have this piece for a few weeks now and I am rather impressed, the look of it is fluent yet commanding in presence. It is quite strong and functional for "normal" purpose. Also the comfortable design makes it perfect for self defense, however, the only downside is the advertised edge at the backbone of the blade is not sharp and the sheath does not make the blade any justice, it is quite cumbersome and aesthetically flawed.
I just got mine and i LOVE them.
i picked two of these knives up in a buy one get one sale, and having handled them now, i would easily have paid for both of them. the blade is a little duller than i prefer, but a good sharpening took care of that. they are a little heavier than your standard krambit, but the longer blade and the overall balance makes it feel nice either forehand or backhand. the grip is designed for comfort and control, and the ring is smooth enough to not hurt your hand on when striking. the only downside to this blade in my opinion is all the writing on it, but thats a minor pet peve. the sheath is tight and definitely secures the blade in place for travel or cary. this is the knife to buy.
The blade is beautifully crafted and it is well balanced the leather knife encasing it fits well but the latch to hold in place needs about to millimeters extension InDesign due to it doesn't close fully
This knife is awesome, I love everything about it, I was worried about the handle because I have very large hands but once it was in my hands all my doubts disappeared. Not sharp out of the box, took a hour to put a edge on it (no big deal). One and only issue with it is the sheath while very well built and extremely high quality, what belt is supposed to go on? I don't plan on wearing a church belt outdoors. If your plan is to wear this on a tact belt your out of luck. Overall great blade, thick heavy construction, worth 4 times what I paid for it!
Careful it is not double edged (I already knew this because it does not say it is which is common to be excluded in the description of items that are not double edged)
I bought two of these knives just cause it looked so awesome. The weight is very well balanced, light, sharp. The sheath is great. Only draw back, should include the option of left and right carry sheath. This is a top notch buy
This is pretty much a good overall knife until you try using two of them. The timing can throw you off because of the size good thing the top isn't sharp if it was you might cut yourself up real good as was shown in a knife fighting class in Puerto Rico when all the instructor did was stop the knife hand of the guy. but it's still a good blade to me
This knife is FLAWLESS. It is VERY SHARP, has a good weight to it, and comes with an INCREDIBLE leather sheath. As soon as I held it, it was love at first sight. You will NOT regret buying this knife.
this is my second Honshu knife. gotta say, not a bad buy. it wasn't as sharp as the first, but that is easy to fix. very end heavy, which is nice. easy draw for lefties like me because of the curve of the blade
it's a good looking blade the curves are nice as well as the weight balance the handle grip are nice and firm what more can I say other then it is indeed a nice addition to my collection
Just got this yesterday and still thinking it over. Wanted to let everyone know that the top edge is NOT SHARP, not even close. It has a square edge - It can be sharpened with some work, but the photos clearly make it appear to be a double edged blade, so VERY disappointed. You all should know ahead of time about this because it was a main point for me. Handle is the exact handle as the Karambits - Great handle, but kind of size specific - I am smaller, so using the ring is a bit too long, yet tight grip within the handle itself is a little too short. Knife feels pretty good in a standard grip, but a little awkward and blade heavy in the reverse grip (Karambit style). Not actually sure why the description says anything about a Karambit, this isn't a Karambit style at all, except the same exact handle. Giving it 3 stars because I am still checking it out for fluidity - Almost sent it back because I was so mad about the top edge being squared off and dull!! Even the Karambits taper more on the top edge to allow sharpening into a double edge. If seeking a double edge and this catches your eye, be aware - IT IS NOT!
Firstly, scorn the one who gave this a two-star rating based solely on the sheath. Judging a knife by its sheath is like judging a woman by her outfit. If anything, this is actually the nicest leather sheath I've ever received with a knife. It is a bit stiff at first (packaged separately from the knife), but it works in quickly. Secondly, THIS IS THE GREATEST KNIFE I'VE EVER PURCHASED! When I fist saw it, my heart skipped a beat and I felt a flutter in my chest not unlike when I see a really cute girl. It's curves give it an aesthetic elegance unlike any other. The ergonomic handle conforms perfectly to my hand whether it be wielded traditionally or like a dagger, and there is no awkwardness or discomfort when using the ring. A perfect balance is achieved with its properly weighted end, allowing it to spin almost effortlessly. And for all of you fellow southpaws out there, the sheath is designed to benefit of left-handed users (not to say it disables right-handed wielding one bit, but drawing it is a bit less elegant).
