The Black Shirasaya Musha Bushido Sword is extremely sharp and embodies the traditional style of the Shirasaya. This sword features a full-tang, carbon steel blade that has a razor sharp edge straight from the factory, as well as a heavy blood groove down the entire length of the blade. The blade is secured in the traditional fashion and can be easily removed. The handle and scabbard are constructed of hardwood from one end to the other. Includes a sword bag.
I did not have very high expectations for a $60.00 sword, but when I took it from the box and handled it, I am very pleased with it. The handle fits well in the hands, not to big or to small. The handle is nice and tight, no loose fit anywhere in this piece. I held it upside down by the scabbard and the sword never feel out. The blade was oiled with no rust or dings on it. The blade was also straight and fairly sharp, which will make it easier to get to that razor sharp edge. All in all, very pleased with this sword in it's appearance, I haven't taken it out and used it to cut anything with it yet, but will do after I get the blade to a sharpness I like...
5 star rating, This is a very well made sword, very sturdy, and very sharp, I was able to shave some arm hairs with it so be careful it will cut you, definately not a toy, I would recomend this to anyone who wants a quality sword. Im now a fan of Musha and will watch for other Musha swords.
Pros:
-Solid
-Good Price
-Not too light
-Fairly sharp
-Good Length

Cons:
-Sword handle + Saya are polished over. WILL GET LOTS OF FINGER PRINTS

Notes: When first getting it, the sword will be a little difficult unsheathing.
Perfect for the price! Looks just like the picture. only complaint would be that the blade says china on the side. But good for the price.
i ordered this on the 9th and it came the 10th razor sharp already tested it it cut through the thick box it came it feels great in my hand just over all 5 out of 5
I used to collect cheap swords all the time just to display and had 1 real sword that I practiced with allot. I wanted to start collecting again and have looked at this site allot. I wanted a simple battle ready sword and chose this one. It was a perfect choice. It got to me in one day. It is very sharp and well balanced. The blade was straight as an arrow. I am extremely pleased with this weapon. Don't let the price fool you. This is a high quality sword.
great product very fast shipping sturdy but i wish i had looked closer, the wooden handle hurts the hand a lil bit no grip
I ordered this sword quite a while ago. It came oiled and sharp, and with proper care this sword is easily worth twice what I paid. This sword was in my second order from trueswords, and remains my favourite to use in displays due to the shine of it and the sheathe.

The sheathe is not flat black like the picture. It is in fact, extremely glossy, and fingerprints are annoyingly visible just from touching it momentarily.

it is however, good quality steel, flexible, but strong; and it is full tang. My only complaint is that the sheathe is slightly loose, so it rattles.
I've brought this sword with a bit of doubt i didn't think it would be a great quality sword for the asking price but to my relief it exceeded all my expectations this sword is steal for the price being charged thanks a lot true swords i definitely will be a returning customer !
This Sword i would recommend to anyone! It looks exactly like it does in the picture, It is very very Sharp, Quite Fairly long, It locks so it doesnt slip out, and the gloss lacquer finish makes me want to cry it is absolutely astonishing.
I ordered 2 swords so the shipping did take 5 or 6 days but it was worth it especially the support, true swords takes support very seriously and once I did get to use this one I ended up having to buy more jugs of water and milk to keep the fun going, absolutely great for the price and if there was any issue pulling the sword out and putting it back in does take a little bit of effort, needless to say I can't wait to buy more swords from this site.
Super fast shipping! Got the Fed Ex tracking # 10 minutes after I placed the order! Wow! Got the package 2 days later. Props on the order handling!

I am very happy with the sword itself. I'm a new sword purchaser this being my 3rd, 2nd from True Swords. My 1st was a mall store and I know now I paid WAY too much for a beater. Like 3 times what this one cost and this one is several levels up in quality, fit, finish and overall coolness factor. My other purchase from True Swords was a 1060 Musashi and I was curious to see what their "lower" level blades were like. So this one was partially a test on my part to see how good this series seemed. So far so good. The balance is more blade heavy than the 1060 but otherwise it looks and feels great. I haven't "used it" yet. I might do some light cutting down the road but for me right now its a nice looking piece and fits exactly what I was looking for.
very nice sword, sharp but not razer sharp like some people say. Very good sword nice balance. Only 1 thing i didn't pay attention to in the beginning and now before writing a review i recognized on the picture it looks like just wood painted with black but what it really is, it's a piano finish. I really love the look of it and it's a great addition to my collection thanks to trueswords once again for a great site amazing prices and good service.
i recommend this sword for everyone
i love this sword the midnight black color of the wood and the shape of the blade is awesome one of my Favorite swords now
like everyone says its not wooden like it seems in the picture its like a glossy material that leaves fingerprints but the sword is amazing super sharp I couldnt help but slice up the box it came in I ordered it monday and it got here thursday just a great sword to have
It took only 3 business days. Its a beautiful sword, the picture doesnt do it justice. Everything about the blade was perfect, and sharp. This makes me want to buy something else from True Swords.
It took 5 days to get to my home, It is Razor sharp and can cut a whole box of water bottles like butter, definitely worth the price!
Just got the sword and I have to say that it is awsome.
Looks exactaly like the picture only more shiny.
As promised the blade came razor sharp. I will be coming back here again to buy swords.
The only slightly negative thing that i have to say is that it is shorter than i expected, but it is still a great buy.
Absolutely gorgeous. Came really sharp with a lot of oil on the blade. Was kind of annoying, but that's what keeps it safe. Was gone after a few draws though. Despite the risk of damaging the blade (cardboard boxes aren't the best for cut-tests...), I couldn't resist trying it out; cut through the box like butter! Thanks again Trueswords! i'll definitely be buying from you again.
Only took 2 days to arrive! The blade itself was awesome! Very sturdy feel to it, came sharpened and all. The full tang gives it an nice feel to it as well. For the price, WELL WORTH IT!
my sword arrived today, it was far beyond what i expected and all i can just say is wow, its simply beautiful.
I bought this sword on monday and arrived the very next day. This sword is worth more than what they sell it for. Its truly a work of art 5/5.
This sword was sharp when I recieved just like it said it would be which made me very pleased. The thing I like about this sword is that it just looks like a giant beating stick while the sword is fully in it's scabbord. Like most people, the only complant I have is that akward wooden peg in the handle. However, I do highly reccomend this sword for purchasing. Can't wait to buy more things off this website!!!
I love this sword! perfect in every way, in the pictures it doesnt look like it has the gloss btw idc about that. better than the first katana i bought with trueswords, sharper too! I've named this sword Ame, japanese for rain, to go along with my other sword kumo, which is japanese for cloud. I highly recommend this katana.
ok so i just got bushido musashi full tang sword and i am very impressed for the price wonderful piece
Just got my sword and love it, however the blade was slightly bent. I would recommend this to anyone just looking for a great display sword. Not sharp enough to really do anything when you first get it and it required a lot of sharpening.

All in all a great sword it looks beautiful, handles well, and has a good weight. 5/5
This sword is amazing, it came super sharp an in a real cool looking box i had it for about a week now and i realized it is kinda heavy but it is amazing get one!!!
Very nice sword. Couldn't wait to get it. When it comes to cutting thing. like plastic it does very well but bamboo it does ok and make sure u don't cut yourself like i did because it u seriously hurt when i cut myself i hand wouldn't stop bleeding for days but after all that imma still keep cuz its a awesome sword and i love it 7/5
Hello Everyone

I would like to share an opinion about this wonderful sword.

First- Blade. Most people think the super razor sharp blade is the key. They cut paper, and that's their test. Nonsense. You can get it sharpened yourself or get it done somewhere. Anyway, this sword is an extremely sharp with no dense, scratches, or any failures. Holds the sharp edge after many many cuts.

Second- Handle, sheath- incredibly fine gloss, super hard, excellent fit. No other comments.

Third- Overall view. It is the most extreme battle ready shirasaya sword ever. You will be glad you purchased this sword from trueswords.com. The price of it should be way more than $300.00.
WOW. Great sword for the price. Fits securely into the saya, the edge is very sharp. As far as i can tell, there are no defects on either the blade or saya. So im very satisfied with this product. GREAT SHIPPING! True Swrods is THE place to fulfill your edged weapon needs.
I just bought this katana for $60. I've spent $150 on swords that don't have this level of craftsmanship. I have do admit, at first I was skeptical. I ready all of these reviews and was like true swords must have wrote them lol. That doesnt seem to be the case now.

The beauty of this blade matches its razor edge. I have no complaints at all. I placed my order on sunday @ 12am. I recieved my sword in under 36 hours. The shipping method was fast. I thought for $12 I'd be waiting a week or so, however was not the case.

1 thing that I wish I could change about this sword... I wish it was double pin consruction instead of single. Thats not a complaint because with this katana you get what you payed for and it is exactly as advertised!

Thanks True Swords! I'll be back!
This was my first sword ever, received it as a graduation gift. I was extremely excited when it finally arrived. Can't believe how fast Trueswords got it to my house--the way they handled this order was most impressive and I will be making future purchases from here: Maybe even within a few weeks.

As far as my knowledge of swords, go-- I'm a complete novice, with no training though I hope i can find a place local to learn. This sword was most definately worth getting, sharp and light. Very sturdy and straight blade-- cut through water bottles (2liters and gallon milk jugs) like it was paper. Also used it to cut down some bamboo (this thin stuff, i don't know what its really called) with little to no effort.

Only complaint is that it doesn't fit tight in the scabbard, so if you hold it upside down it tried to fall. Could be good and bad i suppose...

At any rate, i read through all the reviews before deciding on this one, so I will agree well that this sword is nice especially for a gift...

Thanks Trueswords, hope to do business again real soon!
I just got mine a couple of days ago and it is great. Looks amazing, handles well and has a very sharp single bevel edge. for $50 or three times that price, it is a realy cool sword. I want to buy one for my brother and a nother one for myself. True Swords treated me great. My sword showed up two days after I ordired it. AWSOME.
Fantastic buy! Just received my sword today and it is beautiful. Super sharp. Received quickly and the sword was in perfect condition. Excellent buy and worth every penny. Not to mention the sword is stunningly beautiful. The best buy for such a low price.
This sword is great. I haven't been using this sword very much to test the potential but the blade came razor sharp and this sword has a solid build. On account of my own personal preference I don't like the polish on the wood of the saya and tsuka. I was expecting a more rough wood grain look but it came very polished (no problems with the sword just my preferences).

-The sword does however have a slight problem with having a tight fit in the saya (sheath). After I finally managed to pull my sword out of its saya for the first time I noticed the force used to pull it out made the habaki (bronze piece between the blade and handle) loose, but that doesn't cause any problems whatsoever. The habaki won't come off unless you disassemble the sword and it doesn't move about unless I physically touch it and manipulate it.

Apart from that one minor problem I couldn't find anything else wrong with my sword. True Swords shipped the sword so quickly that it arrived in less than 48 hours. I was amazed. This sword is a great deal and not something to just stick on the wall and collect dust. If you want to learn how to wield a sword then this is great for practicing. Buy this sword.
After seeing all the other reviews I almost felt like this sword spoke for itself, but I wanted to add my two cents anyway. I bought this sword as a gift for a friend just a couple of weeks ago, and it would be an understatement to say he loves it. The sheath is lovely and in perfect condition, and the blade is beautiful, also in perfect condition. This is a fine weapon, and I would pay the price again in a heartbeat, because this is an incredible value. If you are looking for an affordable, yet sturdy and stunningly crafted sword, you can't beat this for the price. Shipping was also very fast and smooth, so I'm definitely a happy man, as is my friend with his new katana.
I am extremely happy with this sword, wasn't expecting much for what I payed for it but I favor this over most of my more expensive pieces. I received it in less than 2 days thanks to the speedy professionals at True Swords :)
(Thanks once again for responding so quickly)

As others have stated I noticed how well this sword is balanced and I love how solid it feels. I have yet to clean the blade (feeling lazy and still playing with it) but it looks beautiful.

I bought this sword because of the great reviews and because I was on a budget this time, but I would fully recommend it to anyone. If you're looking to spend more then buy 2 or 3 ;) you won't be disappointed!
This was my first sword from true swords... and must say that it is the best sword I have got online so far and shiped and recieved within four days... I am very impressed and just ordered two more swords... hard to beat musashi full tang for the price.
I finally own a Shirasaya...AND WHAT A MAGNIFICENT BUY IT WAS!!!!! Everything about the product was perfect...balance, sharpness, tang, even the sound of cutting the wind! The sword fits perfectly in the saya and the sleek look of the sword will make any heart melt. I know mine did. I practice with this sword daily and definitely give it a 5/5.
The sword is beautiful. I received it in the mail within four days and I could not be more satisfied. The blade is not RAZOR sharp, but sharp enough to the point where some minor honing will let the blade cut through anything like hot butter. I am very pleased with my purchase from True Swords and I am considering buying more from this incredible site.

Thank you.
Beautiful sword it's very sturdy and is battle ready contrary to what was said in some of the reviews it's not razor sharp but it's not dull either it's somewhere in the middle I cut through the box it came in with it pretty easily and also some soda bottles all in all it's a good sword for a great price If I could go back in time knowing what I know now I would buy it again thanks trueswords this won't be my last purcharse from this website.
I just got this sword today and it's awesome. Tested its cut with paper and water bottle and goes through without a hitch.

I tried to take it apart by hammering the fitting out with my brass hammer to do a thorough cleaning on the entire blade, but it just wouldn't come off. While it's not too big of a deal, it's going to bug me to no end for a while, at least until I get a wooden mallet and wedge (Trueswords.com, hope you can get a set!). At the same time, I'm sort of reluctant to use the mallet and wedge because it may damage the tsuka of the shirasaya.

While the edge of the blade still isn't as sharp as I expected, it's plenty sharp enough. Should I decide to make it sharper, that shouldn't be any problem for me in the future.

This shirasaya is an awesome choice for any avid collector or martial artist looking for an economy blade for protection or display. Just remember not to go do anything against the law with it. And, if you do decide to remove it from its shirasaya format into the more traditional, battle-ready format, you'll need to find proper tsuba, tsuka, ornaments and whatnot.

Thanks, Trueswords.com, I'll be buying from you folks again, I've got another shipment coming from you guys in the warehouse, so hurry it up. =P
I ordered this for a relative but now I want to good quality; affordable sword, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Amazing sword. Got here when I arrived home from school. Razor sharp! Actually cut my finger.. This sword runs for $100 on other websites. True Swords is amazing! A++
I just got this sword today and from the moment i unsheathed it my heart skiped a beat. i still need to test its cut but later lol this sword is truly a amazeing must have sword.
I loved this sword from first sight. It has a beautiful appearence along with a sharp, sleek blade. Truely a perfect sword.
I received the sword and opened it right away. The first thing that I noticed was how well the sword fit in to the scabbard. There was an amazing degree of quality and attention put to the making of this sword. If you are reading this that means you are looking at this sword and I can tell you there is no reason not to own it. It may not be a target cutting blade but it made short work of the three mats I had waiting for it. The edge was flawless say for the very tip witch was just a little dull.(the last 1/8 inch) I would recommended this sword to any one who loves blades. I have never seen a value like this. Do past up an opportunity to own this sword.
this sword is great... its sharp but not as sharp as i want it to be but still very nice. the sheeth is very nice. anyone who loves sword you will love this one for sure. the tip is very sharp it could problebly go into some one like butter...(dont do it).
This sword is an outstanding Blade. And for such a price, TrueSwords has really cut the price. It seems like it'd be much more. I still can't see what the little wooden peg is for. One reviewer says its for removing the blade. A very good Katana. And its sharp.
Once again, TrueSwords exceeds my expectations! It's worth every dime. The blade was perfectly straight on this one (I'm a stickler for that)! Very well balanced. The handle feels very solid. I've held similar swords of this design and the handles feel like they would shatter on the first swing, but not this baby. The laquer was thick and smooth like a piano, which sounds like it would be a little to slick to hold onto, but actually provides a quite stable grip. Sharp too. Not quite as sharp as I like it, but I'm sure they expect us to sharpen it to our own specs. Definite must have for any collection.
I can't believe the qaulity of this sword. Beautiful scabbard and Glistening blade. Not as sharp as I would like it to be but I will take care of that. The gloss is simply to die for. I may even pickup anther one because i like it so much. This resembles Oren-Ishii's sword from Kill bill except without the snowflakes and not over $150. Definetely well worth it's price.
Excellence...simply excellence.

The sword glides out of the sheath contrary to the rest of the reviews. The handle and saya are lacquered black and can slip from your fingers, however the blade is perfectly balenced. My edge was rolled a bit, but I fixed it easily.

THe only problem, and it's not much of one, is that I can't remove the handle on the blade. This is both a good...and a bad thing. For a blade that can cut through the package cardboard, the price is perfect. Soon I plan on buying a few actuall cutting materials to check the true usefulness of the blade.
i decided to buy this blade, along with the red shirasaya, they are BOTH extremely high quality swords, the sharpness is inhuman. the only problem with it (if any) is that it will start to stick to it's sheath and want to stay in it. which can be annoying when you want to show it to someone, and look like an idiot that can't draw his own blade. other than that it is perfection for the price. (BUY IT NAO!!!!!!)
Very well made Shirasaya, first thing i bought from TrueSwordsâ„¢. When I got it, came fast 2 days but i did not notice there was 3 little dents around the shirasata but that is okay this is after all my practiece sword. I have done the water test on it and it was flawless.

Water test- Take a bottle of water and cut, if its clean cut you have a good sword.

Also i have done the coke can test.

Coke can test- Stab a coke can its quite fun! ^_^

5/5

-Shimoji-San.
Before I opened the box of this Shirasaya I told myself that I was going to be very critical in this review...after 4 days of waiting I was pissed due to being impatient but I opened the box today and wow...i really didn't expect it to look this good...very well balanced! The blade is sharp and in excellent condition. The blade is very sturdy and shiny. As i study the sheeth...i see no dents nor scratches...I can't even say anything bad about this blade...Trueswords...is ballin as F*&^...they got tha hook up!
Great product. You can't beat this sword at its price; if you're considering buying it you definitely should.
This katana is great! It is by far the best sword in my collection. Every part of this sword is amazing. From the razor sharp blade to the glossy black saya(scabbard) every part is beautiful. I think everyone should own this sword.
This sword is GREAT!!!!! i have never seen anything like this before for so cheap. i think everybody should have one of theses babies around.
My favorite sword hands down. It is elegant, sleek, and beautiful. There is a tiny removable wooden dowel on the hilt, possibly for removing the blade. Great Shirasaya!
Ok first of all, this sword deffinetly has an edge, but it isn't as sharp as all the comments and disriptions discribed. The blood groove is nice and makes it so there is a nice slicing sound when it gets swong. The blade feels very firm but please, don't hit trees with it. One thing that kinda bothers me is that the scabared has a VERY tight hold of the blade , which is good so it wont fall out if your jiggling it around but otherwise sucks. the blade is very nice and come from the factory with oil not gel on the it. The last thing is that the handle and the scabbard have a very glossy black coat on it, which isn't a bad thing what-so-ever I just thoght it was going to be a duller wood look to it. Oh yeah, one more thing is that the wooden peg that holds the tang in, looks a bit odd, but nothing much to be discuraged about, overall its a VERY nice blade.
I just received this today and I can tell you that it's a beautilful blade. It sports an elegant, sleek, & wonderfully designed shirasaya and is a fine addition to anyone's collection or as a first sword. This is an amazing buy and the service from True Swords is excellent. I highly recommend this site and its merchandise to anyone.
this is quite possibly the most beutiful piece of steel I have ever seen. It looks awesome when sheathed, deadly (and oh so shiny !-) )when out scabard, and ballances like a dream when actually wielded. My only complaints are the same as most of the other people who have purchased this type of sword, whether this black one, or the rosewood edition.

1) first, the blade is kind of hard to get out of the scabard. This is to be expected, considering that's the only thing keeping the blade in there if twirled around, but kind of annoying still.

2) the blade itself was somewhat scratched when i received it, not too badly, but noticeable. There was also a bit of dust and other grime stuck in the oil that was applied to the blade for transit.

3) THat wooden dot on the hilt, it looks kind of silly up close. I personally think that it would look a qhole lot better if it were a brass stud that was flush with the handle surface, but if that is against tradition, then I guess we're stuck.

Anyways, aside from those few complaints, this is a truly wonderful weapon, and although it is my first True Swords purchase, it will most definetley not be my last.
My first purchase from True Swords,I am very impressed with the fast shipping.
I received my Black Shirasaya Sword today and must say that it is very impressive and "scary" sharp. I know others have said that it needed a guard, but I think that the only improvement I would make, if any, would be to have some sort of wrap on the handle.
When True Swords get the Rosewood Shirasaya back in stock,I would definitely purchase it without any concerns.
Now to see what else I can order.
This sword was my first purchase from TrueSwords and I must say I am greatly impressed. The blade was razor sharp is absolutely beautiful. My only qualm with this sword is that it is a bit difficult to take out of the scabbard. Other than that this sword is completely flawless. I will definetly be buying from TrueSwords from now on.
The sword I have is decent blade is sharp have only one complain't the one peg that holds it together is so loose you can pull it out with your finger if you shake it it will fall out and I don't know where to find a new one its a way smaller peg then my other swords so yea a Lil disappointed it is sharp though !
It's a great sword the black is great but the only thing i have to say is the sword is not that sharp but Overall i Recommend this sword
A fine blade overall; fairly sharp out of the box and decently balanced. From past reviews I gathered that it is not flat black as the picture suggests, but I'm not fully opposed to the glossy black. There was a minor chip on the tsuka near the mekugi, but I can't complain too much as it is was an easy fix. Overall a great sword for the price.
this sword is beautiful, durable, and is razor sharp. the weight is a little strange: it's not heavy at all, but its not light enough to be agile either. basically it weighs a notable amount more than the other swords ive gotten. this was my very first purchase way back when, but TrueSwords solidified their positive rumors by getting my order to me in one piece and extremely quick. thanks again, TrueSwords!
So this just came in the mail. I couldn't be happier with such a cheap sword. Razor sharp, beautiful piano black finish Properly oiled our of the box. I only have one odd thing it says musashi but it came in a box that says musha a little odd but i can deal with it the picture does not do the finish on the outside justice it's super beautiful. I'm very pleased, this is a great sword for any enthusiast beginner. :D
I bought this sword a while ago and have several so I wanted one Shirasaya style. I am very happy with what arrived. The blade was sharp and I have used it carefully to test the quality. It easily cuts lighter targets with ease (milk jugs, water bottles, fruit, etc.) I have yet to test this on bamboo but I'm sure it would go right through it. I saw how someone didn't get a sharp blade, which I think is just inaccurate. Mine was sharp and after almost a year of owning this without sharpening it once, it has remained just as sharp as when it arrived. Thanks TrueSwords, hopefully my next order will be coming your way soon!
Hmm, where can I start with this? First off, I've bought the rosewood version of this sword when I first joined this site and it was a very beautiful sword. The metal had a nice shine to it along with a very balanced polished look to it. That sword also came super sharp, sharp enough to at least cut through a couple of bodies for an old fashioned cutting test (mind you, that's if it was the old age of samurai).

Now then, for this one that I just recently bought. I was hoping for a flat black like in the picture, but got a fully lacquered sword instead like other reviewers have said. I have tested the sharpness of it, but after running a finger across it a little, I can say it isn't sharp. And after closer inspection, the tip of of the edge is bent, not the pointy part mind you, but the actual edge around the area of the tip.

It looks like edge was smashed against something hard enough to cause the damage. It also came a little gunky in the Habaki. Well that's what I got in comparison to the other people that have gotten something better it seems like. so for the sword that "I" got, it's a 2.5/5
The sword is very nice, hard to draw however, maybe i'm not doing it right. There was also a small chip in the sheath that made me kind of sad...
This sword is nice but the picture doesn't look like the sword much because the real deal is much thicker at the handle & blade. Also they say the sword is sharp... Wrong answer only the tip is sharp & I mean u can see the difference because if the whole blade was like that you could probably cut through sheet rock.
