"I bought my wife a regular "Alaskan Ulu" for Christmas this year because she likes to eat a lot of salads and reviews mentioned how awesome they are for whipping up a salad quickly. It has a lot to do with the bowl but none the less it works great. I was worried it was going to be one of those "unused, set on the counter gifts" but I was wrong. To me, the hand above the blade just made sense and I was right. That Ulu has become the go to knife for a great many things in the kitchen, they are truly awesome. I liked it so much, I wanted something more utilitarian for fishing, hunting and camping with a sheath for carry. I found the Hibben Ulu and it is awesome as well. Sturdy, nice looking very sharp and carries easily. I had a lady compliment my on it at the store and I forget I had it with me. The fact that the handle is not in your ribs while sitting in a vehicle is a real plus. I used it around the kitchen and it's just as useful as the one I bought my wife. With your hand above the blade you don't have to work hard and you have excellent control of the blade. Remember, it's not used to "chop" up and down so much as it is to use the curve of the blade to draw through and slice things. If you had the concave bowl the rocking motion makes quick work of those vegetables which like to roll or jump away. Brussel sprouts, radishes, nuts berry's etc. don't stand a chance. Great quality tool."
