Product Description
This High Carbon Steel Throwing Axe is well balanced for a perfect throw and also makes a perfect addition to your camping or hiking pack. The high carbon content of the axe head provides greater hardness than stainless steel, which allows this axe to stand up to hours of cutting tasks without resharpening. A sturdy hardwood handle affords a classic appearance with lasting durability. Whether you're splitting wood for a campfire or notching logs to build your bug-out shelter, this tomahawk will never let you down!

axe head is goid quality. no edge though. handles are complete shit. wood shatters like glass. good head to custom fit your own handle.

It is a nice axe. Although mine didn't come with an edge that's not a big deal. I like it that way so I can put the edge I like on it. But the handle kind of sucks. Mine has a tear drop shape to it and the point is right where your fingers wrap around the handle. I can sand that down . But all in all I love the axe. It's well worth the money.

This is my first throwing axe, I picked a winner I have 3, I broke 1 handle, had a knot below head, I made another, the other 2 handles are doing good, Getting good at throwing and love it

Throw great, great quality for the price, have to put an edge on them but I like it that way, months of use and I have only broke one handle, simply glued correctly together and still throwing them! Great for beginners. Use don't abuse!

I got 2 of these tomahawks and they have great handles regardless of what you may have read in other reviews. The heads are well made but do require sharpening. But all and all great.

This is a great tomahawk to learn to throw with or mod your self. The handle has not broken after being thrown, it was just to short for me.

Head design is better than expected for this price. Needs new handles but that was expected. A great tomahawk to "mod" to your own preference.

Fantastic product. Yes the handle breaks. It's made of wood. That's why they sell replacement handles out of the catalog. The taper to the handle is accurate to how true tomahawks have been made for centuries. Lightweight for the size and throws like a dream. You won't find a better non-tactical hawk.

Many years ago I made and threw tomahawks and thought I would like to do that again, so I purchased 4 of these. When I received them they were not sharp but that was to be expected nor was it a problem since I have grinders. I sharpened them and gave the edge a longer taper. One of the handles broke on the first throw even though it hit square and the head stuck into the target. The handle snapped off. Examining the handle indicated that the wood had be taken from a piece of wood near a knot thus weakening the handle (grain orientation). The rest have functioned as expected and I am again enjoying something I did 30 years ago. I would rate these a 5 star even with the broken handle, tomahawk handles are easy enough to come by.

Aside from a little sharpening i dont see any problem. With all respect to earlier comments the handles are supposed to be loose. You tap them on the head and tighten the handle. They are loose so if you miss or hit the handle first it wont break but only come loose. A grat price for a throwing hawk others are selling for forty dollars

If you are comparing this tomahawk to the 'Throwing Hatchet Axe' get this one! I didn't buy this product but I bought the 'Throwing Hatchet Axe' This 'Throwing Axe Tomahawk Carbon Steel' actually is a legit tomahawk. The head will probably slide around but with a old broomstick and a knife or other carving tools you can make easy replacement handles for cheap! Its a neat deal! I do that with another tomahawk I purchased at a gun show. The way to tell that this is better that the other 'Throwing Hatchet' is that on this tomahawk above is that the handle sticks a little bit over the head of the hawk. That means the tomahawk handle is east to replace and isn't junk like the throwing hatchet. This looks like a good offer but also put into consideration that I haven't purchased this item.

I have 2 of these. Neither one came sharpened. The handles are narrow. The heads are good forgings though with good high carbon steel. All in all, worth buying.

Well balanced tomahawk & easy to throw . It takes some effort to sharpen. The handle loosens up after some banging around. I will be buying replacement handles. Overall it's worth the money.

I bought this for a tool. It wasn't super sharp when I got it and the handles are sort of soft. I removed the handle and the black finish on the head. I sharpened it with a better taper and copied the handle in hickory. I engraved the new handle and the head and I must say it looks quite nice and it will literally shave. I've turned down $100 for it after all the work. It's good for the money.

When I ordered this, I was not expecting a fantastic product. I was pleasantly surprised. I admit, it needed some upgrades, like a new handle and sharpening. The sharpening took 5 minutes for what I needed it for and I had an extra hickory handle laying around and it is now an excellent work hawk. I don't throw them. I like to use them for what they are supposed to do...get work done!

the head is as good as it gets but the handle breaks like glass and its hard to find good handles

I just grabbed mine from the mail and lemme tell you, I love it. The handle was loose and the head was dull out of the box. Within ten minutes I had it filed to a razor edge and the handle nice and tight. No complaints. It throws easy, and just ordered a second one! Good deal for the money!

product shipped, conforms to description. handle unknown wood but straight grain running correctly thru handle. would have preferred round pol. sharpenned well, not using for throwing. using as camp axe
Jan 14, 2013

When they first arrived I was more than a little displeased to see how crudely fitted the handles were to the heads. The welds inside the head were underground causing all 3 of the axe heads to fit insecurely over their handles. One ax I was able to effortlessly pull the handle all the way through the head. Non of the axes came sharpened. But smoothing out the welds inside the heads and taping their handles to make a more secure fit turned these things into another animal. Very formidable in close combat, and you cant miss with them. So potential is definitely there for the price. They havent been tested on the trai yet.

I throw tomahawks profesional at Scottish Highland Games. I bought one of those tomahawks the head was super nice the handle in inferior and breaks easely. I replaced with one of my virginia white hickory handle's that I sell at the shows. The paint on the blade came off when I degreased it but underneath was a beautiful shiny metal so I put clear on it and I am planning on useing it as one of my throwers at my show's the tomakawk throws beautiful. Flying Hawkes Axe Throwing Master.

These are very affordable. I was impressed with them the minute I unpacked them. They throw well and my boys and I had a great time immediately. The blades were dull, as expected, but easily file to a nice edge. The only drawback is a lack of spare handles. They will get beat up and crack over time. One cracked when it hit the stump poorly. It was not due to quality but the force with which the handle smacked the target when my son missed. I'll be buying more.

I received one with a poor handle. The throwing hawk head seems well made although the edge looks like it was ground by an amateur. A bit of filing will correct that or it is serviceable as is. The handle on the one I received was a piece of wood that should have been used for kilning. It was rough, not sanded, no finish, Not fitted to the head so head wobbled( not safe to throw), and had a jagged knot right where you grip to throw. Sorry no where to post pic here. Now let me also say I ordered an extra handle which was a solid grained, smooth sanded, well shaped extremely nice handle. You always have to fit all replacement handles to the head by shaping/sanding a bit. A quality throwing hawk will cost at least 2X to 3X more than this one. If you receive one with a decent handle then this is still a very good deal.

This axe was well balanced, I was able to make it stick at about 14 feet from the target. However after so many throws, the handle broke at the neck. I fixed it with Gorilla glue so far it is holding. I also had to glue the handle to the axe after so many throws.

This thing has a super cheap handle. It's tapered and slides in from the top. I got a different handle from a home improvement store and then I put a sharper edge on it since it was dull when I got it. It's pretty bad**s now. It can be thrown and it does land on the axehead when done properly so I'm satisfied now.

The "carbon steel" head is simply modern mild steel and will not hold an edge, it needs to be heat treated for the edge to be durable. The handle is a low grade of a mahogany-like wood and I barely consider it a hardwood. The blade shape was off and was not a smooth crescent like it should be. The paint on the blade was applied to a rusty substrate without primer (typical for China stuff). I bought this for a camping axe and for the style, but I should have gotten the TIMBER WOLF DOUBLE HEAD HATCHET instead since that one comes with a sheath. I heat treated the blade edge, stripped/repainted it and fitted an old "california framer" hammer handle to it (about two hours work). I should have sent it back but once I got into it I just kept going.
