Product Description
This massive Japanese Odachi sword is an outstanding example of craftsmanship. The odachi was used on early Japanese battlefields but its size soon relegated it to use as an army's standard or as an offering to the gods. Stretching 69" long with a heat-forged 45" carbon steel blade, this sword has a powerful full-tang construction. The hardwood handle is traditionally wrapped with leather. A black lacquered wooden scabbard houses the blade. This is a superb item, and, one you'll definitely want to add to your collection!

Every other sword I have purchased from here has been magnificent. The tang is loose inside of the grip making it wobbly and making me concerned to swing it for any reason. Otherwise it looks pretty. Maybe I will gift it to someone who just wants a wall decoration and try a different one. I would still definitely buy swords from this site, I won't let one bad apple chase me off.

This is a magnificent weapon to hang on display. It came well-packaged for its shape, came on-time, and was in magnificent condition on arrival. As a long-time fan of this company, I'm as usual impressed with what I received!

Everything intact. Liked the brown leather wrap. Paint on scabbard is black not brown. Description mentioned red tassels before now it doesn't hmmmm. Blade is a little misdirected which gave tighter fit into the scabbard which was fine. Overall not bad for cheap wall hanger.

Someone in the description called it a display sword because his friend hit a tree branch with it and the blade was damaged. SWORDS ARE NOT MEANT TO CUT DOWN TREES OR THEIR BRANCHES. You can go buy a $900 sword and whack a tree with it and I guarantee the blade will till be damaged, maybe not to the extent of bending the blade like this one would be but the blade would still be in need of repair. If you want to whack a tree buy a machete or an axe, something actually designed for hitting trees. Note. Swords also aren't meant to collide with other swords, as it damages the blades, swordsman would usually dodge swings and parry with the side or back of the blade if they absolutely had to, but never with the blade. If you want to use this sword for slicing up water jugs or watermelons or sword cutting matts then it will work just fine. Just remember to keep your blade oiled to prevent rust.

@ MATTHEW ....THE DISCRIPTION OF THIS SWORD SAYS THE BLADE IS 45 (INCHES) LONG ! NOT THE TYPE OF STEEL USED TO FORGE IT ! DUDE NEEDS GLASSES . I WILLL ORDER ONE OF THESE ON THE FIRST OF THE MONTH OF MAY 2015 . THE PRICE IS RIGHT FOR SURE !

This is by far the best weapon I bought from this website. the blade is nice and when I got it I used the box as practice. I used other blades from the site and this is the only one that cut clean through it. My only problem is the grip for the handle tends to move around exposing the wood and the chain on the end breaks off easily. Other then that its a fine piece.

WOW, just totally amazing! First of all, the shipping is great! I got this like four days after I ordered. Second, the blade is amasing, seems a little wobbly for actual use, but i dont think it will break. And third, everything came intact, no problems, no issues, no nothing! Sure the blade seems a little bland without a blood groove, but I dont mind that. All in all, I give the Odachi 5 out of 5 stars :D !!!

This sword is massive! I love it. The end of the chain broke before i got it; however the size of this sword makes up for it. Im six feet tall and i found a sword for me with this one
Jul 10, 2010

OMG THIS SWORD IS FREAKING AWESOME! Definately one of my favorite swords in my collection. Very heavy but that's okay since it's a two handed sword. The chain is a very nice touch in my opinion. I can't find a flaw anywhere on this one. No complaints here! ^-^
May 19, 2010

Very Impressive sword without a doubt. Nice blade and hilt, endcap was nice and snug as well. Sheath was very decent, my only question was the authenticity of the "full tang" it said in description, but at glance on the hilt there was no real evidence of pins holding it place but could be merely covered up with the grips placed around them. If anyone has any more info about the "full tang" please contact me thank you.

Reading that a sword is 5'9'' is one thing--seeing and holding it for yourself is *quite* another. When I first pulled this sword out of the box, all I could do was chuckle evilly while thinking of Sephiroth . . .

This sword is execellently made--the blade is firmly attached to the handle. The leather wrapping on the hilt and sheath is a nice touch, as is the chain on the sheath and back of the hilt. The sword is a very good weight, not really all that heavy, and though it can easily be carried by one hand, it's a little top-heavy to be wielded without the other hand. The hilt is nice and long, allowing for increased control when you swing the sword around. An all around perfect sword--and for eighty bucks, you can't beat it!!

Amazing product! The sheath is all black. The wrap is all leather, and top grade leather! The swords is very sharp and i have lready taken it out and sliced things with it. the blade cleans easy and is very smooth in sliding in and out! I am 14 and i handle it with ease. This is a very light yet very tuff sword that i will recomend 2 all!
Jan 02, 2010

Good length, just what I what I wanted! I decided to break the chain on the end because it was being annoying. Otherwise, AN EXCELLENT SWORD!
Dec 23, 2009

over all a good sword it had no problems with the chain. the blade it self is very sturdy so over all it's worth the $80
Aug 29, 2009

"this sword is great! it was put together very nicely. when i got this sword i wondered how good it cut so i brought it outside, man this can cut through an oke tree 5 thick (in one chop)! im glad i got this one. thanx BudK"""
Aug 25, 2009

One of the greatest buys I've made so far. It's a lot of sword for the price so I didn't think it was gonna be so great, but I'm glad I was wrong.
May 31, 2009

i got a different series with the wrapping on top are in the middle with chain in the middle but it is huge and very shard
May 29, 2009

Hell yeah! It's pure awesome!! AND it comes with a small token of appreciation from TS. So glad I bought it, it has such great quality, pretty sharp, too. Worth its value, especially since prices can be far pricier!

AWESOME!!!
Mar 06, 2009

Most excellent! The picture doesn't do the blade justice in my opinion, it really is awesome. Other people have stated how the chain broke during shipping, but mine didn't, however I broke it off myself because it just got in the way. A simple little tug and it came right off, so I can see how it would come off easily during the shipping process. Overall probably one of my favorite buys.
Feb 24, 2009

This is a remarkable find. I can't believe this was the price it is. I'm almost tempted to get another one and cross them in the living room on the empty wall behind the couch. Blade is perfect and very sharp, the hilt is great and overall, I can find no flaws. I read something earlier about there being some damaged product and a price reduction, but I find it hard to believe this is that Odachi. This one is mint. Great sword, thanks!
Feb 18, 2009

This sword was my first buy from True Swords and I must say, I'm impressed. The chain at the end of the handle broke in the box but besides that it is a fantastic sword. I recommend it to any one who is reading this.
Feb 06, 2009

sweeet! but lol the handle was longer than i thought xD i was hoping to swing it around like normal but lol im alil short on arms length, but i gotta say thats a WHOPPER for swords
Jan 21, 2009

It's ridiculous how long this sword is, ha. But in a good way.

I haven't gotten to use it outside yet, which basically mean I haven't gotten to use it yet, heh. But it hasn't bent so far and the wrapping hasn't come off or loosened or anything.

It can be kind of hard to maneuver it since the handle is so long, but it's not a baton anyway so there shouldn't be any twirling about. One thing I'd suggest doing is not swinging it hard when one of your hands is near the hilt of the sword, since the chain will whip it.

Anyway, it was really cool.
Aug 28, 2008

This sword is beyond anything you can expect! The sword it perfect! NUFF SAID!!! The chain did break, but I got it for the sword, so it didn't bother me. Trust me, this sword is an absolute must-have for all collectors! I'm only 5'7'' and if I can wield this baby, then anyone can!!! This Odachi is.....PERFECT!!!
May 24, 2008

I got this sword and was slightly upset that my chain from the handle broke before its arrival. Then I thought about it and made an earring out of it instead! I must say that it made a really good ear chain. LMAO. So I gave it a 5 for its multipurpose/multiple use handle chain. I also gave it a five because of its weight. It was perfectly balanced for me. I am shorter than the blade by several inches but for some reason it seems to suit me in combat use. It's weight to me is comparable to... --thinks-- a light weight bowling ball maybe... I love the feel of this odachi it pleases me! ^_^
Apr 12, 2008

Awesome! I am really happy with it. Very high quality for this price bracket. It's solid and feels really good in your hands. The scabbard is very nice and attractive, and the blade is sharp and thick. And it's HUGE. I'm 6' 3" and I can barely reach long enough to put it back in it's scabbard. A couple minor gripes though - the chain is flimsy and I would not suggest holding the sword by it since it's so heavy. It broke once for me but putting it back together was easy. And when you are putting it back in it's sheath you have to twist it a little to fit it all the way in.

Overall, if you are looking for a full tang really big samurai sword and don't quite want to pay hundreds of dollars, then this is definitely the best value on the internet. Highly Recommended.
Apr 01, 2008

6 FEET OF AWESOME!!!! It had some imperfections, but I still give it a 5! I was worried it would have a slim blade like the 68" Bankai sword, but NO! It's a thick as the Musashi swords I've bought, and it's a little wider than the picture does it justice for. I've bought dozens of swords over the years in varying degrees of craftsmanship, and this is the best purchase I think I've made thus far.
As far as the imperfections; the scabbard had obvious dents and scuffs. There was a place on the edge of the blade where it looks like it was ground to close inward. The blade wasn't "perfectly" straight (and I'm a real stickler on that).
However, with these minor imperfections in consideration, I'd gladly buy another at the same price, if not 2. I'd really like a perfectly straight blade, but this wasn't bad enough to be noticable unless you really know what to look for and beside; expecting a perfect full tang blade at under $150 or $200 is like wanting a brand new Mercedes for under 10K.
The Full Tang Odachi is a fine purchase for any sword enthusiast! I highly recommend it.
Feb 17, 2016

Shipped VERY promptly and was well-packed. This is a beast of a sword! It matched the site's description with the exception on having no edge at all. An excellent value for the price. My only complaint is that the blade was very difficult to draw from the saya and I cannot get it resheathed completely without using a great deal of force on the last couple of inches. It is almost more of a nagamaki than an odachi but still a very nice buy for the price!
Jul 24, 2015

For the price, this sword is excellent for training. The blade is of carbon steel, so under stress it bends instead of breaks, which is preferable in a desperate situation. The tang isn't full, but there's 5-6 inches near the end where the handle is hollow. I just hacked the end off and mended/reinforced the handle with duct tape, and it still works fine, despite the blade's obvious bend. I train on wood, so the blade would be in better condition if bought by a seasoned practitioner of the art of the Odachi. This is a very good sword for exhibitions and resistance training for your body, with sharp changes of direction during strikes. I myself have very much enjoyed this sword, and do encourage anyone looking for a training sword to buy this sword, but use with caution.

Great buy.

Just got this massive bad bot and I love it. The weight is more than I expected so I have to work on my swing.

My chain tassel thing was fine no damages there.

The leather wrap is ok quality and the bamboo pegs used to fasten the handle together are done badly. How ever the sword still feels solid.

The blade is of the same quality as most 30-40 swords no suprise there since it has Made in China stamped on it.

I haven't tried any test cuts yet, still working on the weight issue.

Really amazing piece of steel! Every time I pick this thing up I can't help but grin like a mad man.

Pros: Very light, very sharp. and surprisingly well balanced for a sword its size.

Cons: Leather wrapping around the handle was loose, chain on scabbard was flimsy, and the metal piece on the end of the handle had come off during shipping.

Overall, definately a good buy. Even the cons were an easy fix. A must have for any lover of large steel.
Mar 27, 2011

Pros: very big, awesome and a good conversation pice.

cons: flimsy (steel not thick enough), made in china label clearly visible and quite annoying, no blood groves.
Aug 13, 2010

shipped packed with the other portions with my order and arrived at the expected time, however, the chain was broken on the end, possibly during shipping. perhaps this particular item should be labeled as fragile in the future. overall though not a bad item. rated 4/5 because of minor damage.
Jun 11, 2010

If you get this sword you need to know that it is mainly a decorative sword. My buddy took a swing at a branch and the sword bent slightly not to bad but it just shows it is only decorative. Altogether great for price though. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. We have updated the review to reflect the appropriate spelling.
May 23, 2010

Just a small edit note really, the cross guard was really loose how some might be on not so high quality items. Also as expected the flimsy chain accents are just a cheap aluminum alloy ring linked so they broke soon as i attempted to lift this beast up by the one tethered near the cross guard, the small chain and diamond shaped weight was completely broken off beyond fixing. My only concern on an exchange is the loose cross guard, it is in a place as such that i cannot fix it myself and would just prefer it to be exchanged instead. Great sword tho overall, definitely worth the money aside from minor snags like the chains (and weight) and cross guard. Very beautiful weapon.
Jan 20, 2010

This sword is certainly of epic proportions. As others have said the chain on the end is a bit annoying but can be easily removed. The wrapping on the hilt isn't as sound as I thought it would be, the leather can slip around a bit, which to a perfection can be bothersome heh. Overall a very nice sword.
Nov 28, 2009

First and foremost, I wasn't expecting anything perfect from an $80.00 Odachi sale, so therefore I was certainly not disappointed. Unlike most of the reviewers on here, mine came with zero flaws, including the chain attachment at the end of the handle. The handguard is a little cheaply made, but it's not worth knocking it down a point. My only problem with it is the lack of a blood groove, making the blade seem a little plain. However it is sharp, surprisingly lightweight, and the sword looks awesome while in the scabbard, as well as intimidating enough while weilded; so albeit not perfect, it is definitely a worthy addition to a collection and absolutely worth the $80.00.
Oct 18, 2009

IT'S SO HUGE! I love how massive it looks and feels. I does feel pretty well crafted, but there are a few problems with mine. That little chain on the handle was broken off mine, right out of the box. It wasn't even in there, so it must have been sold to me that way! shame, shame! Plus, my scabbard is slightly curved (I don't know how solid wood can bend), making it hard to sheath it. Plus, I worry it might bend the sword over time. The lack of a blood groove makes the blade look a little plain, but it is so huge that it makes up for it. I really love this sword, and for such a huge one fore only $80 I highly recommend it. Just don't expect perfection.
Sep 17, 2009

A great sword. VERY LARGE. its almost as tall as I am. The chain on the end broke off on mine, but was easily fixed.
Jul 10, 2009

Got it within a few days of purchase two thumbs up on shipping. A very good sword and boy is it huge: I can barely put it back in the scabbard. Only a few minor complaints regarding the sword; the Made in China Print on the side of the sword (i hate China!) and just the tassel wacks your hand when you swing the sword. Overall very good and i will definitely be buying from true swords for a second katana to add to my collection!
Jan 30, 2009

it is a larg sword i do like it but the end peice was loos, other than that its a good sword for the money
Mar 27, 2008

Great sword, however the chain was broken from the pommel when it arrived. It has good weight and is the longest thing I have put my hands on..... well the second longest.

Oct 23, 2011

Is nice sword for its price but thats about it for me, not saying there anything bad about it but it just wasn't really what I was hoping for, basically I was looking for a blade length thats much longer than the handle, didnt expect to see that theb handle is almost as long as the blade. Just feel very weird for me.

Overall is a nice sword for this price.
Jul 20, 2014

1045 is 5 pts above Ornamental iron. It can be hardened and even doing so only requires water. But it is not steel. Not steel not a sword. Polishes great and easily and can almost hold an edge. My first mentor liked 1040 iron for gates.
Mar 19, 2012

unhappy, bought this since it actually matched my size and build. unfortuantely the construction and materials are shotty, missing end of handle chain, and scabbard chain was unlinked when received. very unhappy with this sword. only thing this sword had that was good was a decent edge. if i tried to use this sword i would have to use minimal strength since it feels just so flimsy that it could break on you if you actually used it with any kind of power behind it
