Great, simple

Just got mine and it’s great! Simple, sharp, just all around good shape. I recommend it!

Brown Mule Pocket Knife

Blade has a very slight bend to it; also it is difficult to open the knife. There are also some very fine nicks on the top of the blade near the tip. I have always been very pleased with Kissing Crane, but not with this knife. I'll be returning it.

Christmas present

Received my knife for Christmas, 2007. Understand that the blade print said "Farming Tradition" rather than "Brown Mule", but trust me when I say it is the same knife. Simply stated, I have put this knife through hell. I camp with it at least three times each summer and once in the winter, carried it with me when I was recalled to the Marine Corps, and used it as an EDC the rest of the time. It has cut branches, skinned small game, pared and sliced fruit, cut the strapping on MRE cases, used as a screwdriver, and opened letters at work. My blade is not stainless, so using a mag rod is no problem. The carbon steel has discolored somewhat, but is not pitted. I have shaved with the knife. The wood handles have no chips or rough spots, The original brass rivets are still holding the handles in place. The handles have turned a dark brown from dirt, sweat, rainwater, and blood from small game. They are smooth and slightly shiny from being carried in pocket. A few strokes on an Arkansas stone makes the blade razor sharp.

Very good knife

This is a very good knife for the money. I bought it because I have a larger version I have had now for 20 years. It ended up in my kitchen from a weekend party and nobody claimed it. I loved the larger version and in 20 years I have had to sharpen it twice! It keeps a great edge for a long time obviously. This smaller one is made in China so I am not expecting the same quality or longevity but it is a nice knife nonetheless. It is a good size, it fits the hand well and is relatively sharp out of the box. It only has one blade so if you need more look elsewhere. It is simple, does the job for which it is created and it's simplicity is a statement all by itself. Good purchase. (Would have been 5 stars if not from China)

Unexpectedly long blade

A very decent knife, that is easy to carry in your pocket. Good quality. Nice handle with brass rivets. Old-fashioned classic.

Right Price

This knife is China made, but for the price, it's a good buy. I like that the knife blades are NOT stainless steel. It's hard to find a knife that has this type blade. I'm satisfied.

Good Buy

I have used Kissing Crane knives for some time now and I find them to be durable and easy to maintain sharp. The Brown Mule is a great value.

Low price, China made

I ordered both the "KISSING CRANE BROWN MULE" $6.98 and the "KISSING CRANE POCKET FARMER" $8.99 - both made in China but the "Brown Mule" finish is rougher / not as polished. "Brown Mule" looks like it was made in a different factory, the logo has the 2 cranes but without the text "Kissing Crane Since 1834" found on the nicer finished "Pocket Farmer"(gave the Pocket Farmer 5 stars). The "Brown Mule" has a longer blade, no blade lock on either knife, both sharp out of the box, "Brown Mule" will probably need regular cleaning after use so the etched graphic on the blade doesn't rust. I would say spend the extra $2 for the "KISSING CRANE POCKET FARMER",put it in your cart and wait for a Free Shipping code in your email from Budk

Chinese Knives

I'm not sure where they get the "legendary kissing crane" line from - these knives are all made in China, but "Founded on German traditions and Values" (from the box insert). I don't know what that means, but it's funny to have a Chinese knife, founded on German values, whose blade has an American covered wagon stamped on it... oh well. For $7-$8, it's a decent knife that you don't have to worry about if you misplace it, but like most of the stuff in Bud K, you pay for what you get....

Hard to Beat

I'd long been an admirer of the KC Brown Mule, but had never purchased one. At $6.98, I couldn't pass it up. I liked it so well, I ended up buying several more (along with the Black Angus version) as Christmas gifts. I have a Sodbuster Jr. and actually prefer the blade design on the Brown Mule and find it a bit more versatile.

Good deal

I bought two of these. On one the handle was reddish-brown. The blade was a little loose on that one. I kept one that has a darker brown handle. The wood smells a little like a mule. Not sure what's up with that. Blade is good and tight on this one. The liners are silver color, not brass. The liner extends slightly beyond the wood and has a sharp rough edge. The knife is a good medium size, fits well in pocket and hand. I like the cartoon of the mules pulling the covered wagon on the blade. Good deal for the price.

All around knife

I purchased this knife because it fit the time period of reinactments I do. It has the correct outward appearance for that time period. The quality is great, too many pocket knives these days have loose blades, not this one. For anyone that needs a good working knife this one would be hard to beat.

Good Restaurant Knife

Wanted a knife that I could take out to dinner. Restaurant steak knives are usally pretty bad. I sharpen and clean this knife and head out to dinner without the worry of not being able to cut my steak. It looks good and does not attract alot of attention.
