Product Description
This stunning handmade Musashi sword features a hand-forged 1060 carbon steel blade that was made using age-old clay tempering techniques, resulting in a fully functional work of art. Authentic details such as the antique-finished tsuba, menuki and kashira add historic provenance while the brass habaki adds a splash of elegance. The handle is encased in genuine ray skin with cord wrappings. A hand-painted hardwood scabbard houses the 27-1/2" blade.

Very well made and tight. Sharp, sturdy, and well balanced. Excellent sword for the money or much more. Highly recommended.
Nov 24, 2015

This sword is very nice overall for its price range. Blade is sharp, but not exceptionally so. For the money, very good value, Nicely executed workmanship. Would recommend it over many others in it's range.

Beautiful katana for the price. Everything was very solid feeling. Nothing loose. Everything was in mint condition except the Saya had 2 small scratches on it which both were on the same side so no big deal for display purposes. Other than that very, very pleased with this low budget katana.
Jan 07, 2015

This is my first katana that i've purchase, so take that for what it may be. It came looking even more fantastic than it seemed online! the handle felt solid, no rattling or looseness, pretty much everything feels sturdy and strong. The only drawback was that they wrapped the blade in oil-soaked saran wrap, which must be for a specific reason, i heard someone else say theirs did too and damaged the blade, but i haven't seen any damage as of yet. Blade looks sharp, but not incredibly so, i tried doing a paper cutting test and couldn't make it work. All in all a fantastic start to my collection and definitely happy to call this my first Katana.

This was first purchase from trueswords and all i have to say is AWESOME. Nice weight, good blade length, excellent grip, cool sheath although blue is more my color, excellent material, Superb cutting. I have no doubt that this blade is as close as one can get to being unbreakable. My only minor criticism is the design of the guard. Its a cool design however if you're a swordsman who keeps hand close in contact with the guard, you may get uncomfortable rubbing/irritation. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WARNING: I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. THE BLADE WHILE NOT SHARP TO THE TOUCH, THE CUTTING EDGE IS EXTREMELY THIN AND THE TIP IS VERY POINTED. IF SOMEONE WERE TO JUST DROP THE SWORD, POINTED END DOWN, AT LEAST 1/2 AN INCH FROM ONE'S FOOT, THE SWORD WOULD PROBABLY IMPALE THE FOOT DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE SWORD. ALSO DON'T TRY HOLDING THE SWORD BY THE BLADE BECAUSE ONE MINOR SLIP AND YOU'LL HAVE A DEEP CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than that, TOTALLY AWESOME. I would strongly recommend this sword to any first time sword buyers. Thanks TRUESWORDS.

Absolutely Beauty full!
I am VERY pleased. anyone looking for an elegant Katana for a good price should order one of these.

Thank you for your prompt service and phone calls to answer my questions.

I will be doing future business with you at True Swords.

Rick Collins.
Jan 09, 2013

My starter sword, however having handled many battle ready and very expensive swords in the past I could not be happier with this Bamboo Warrior. I've watched videos on it and they've all been positive and so is my review. It feels very quality, it doesn't feel like an $80 sword, it feels like a $300 sword. Balanced and sturdy. Love it, you can really feel the quality when you're holding it.
Nov 23, 2012

It's Musashi....what else can I say? If anyone reading this owns any 1060 musashi katanta you know this is amazing! But for those who don't, with a flick of my wrist, this will cut inch thick rope clean! and with both hands, any tameshigiri mat is toast! Plus it's beautiful in every way a sword can be! It's a functional work of art for under $100...buy it!
Jul 22, 2012

I bought this after reading a very positive review and am extremely happy I did. The sword showed uo the day following the order which was great. The sword was as close to perfect as you could ask for in a sword at this price point. beautiful hamon and sharp!!! The Saya is a beautiful red and the sword feels really great in the hand. I had a issue with some low hanging apple tree branches in the yead so out I went sword in hand to do some pruning the Samurai way. I handle had to swing to sever 1" limbs like butter. After cleaning the sap off the blade it didn't have a mark on it!
Fabulous sword with terrific customer service, can't beat it. I'm going to buy another Katana right here!!
Jul 08, 2012

Was skeptical about buying a katana at this price but saw great reviews about this on other sites so bought it and have absolutely no regrets. It feels substantial and balanced in my hands and came sharp and well oiled with nicely done intricacies. Gorgeous quality saya came wrapped in black cloth with numbered certificate also. Reviewed quality of 1060 blade and am certain for personal protection this will be more than sufficient if ever needed. Great for wall display also. Packed well by trueswords and fast delivery. Will be buying more soon. Thanks.
Apr 11, 2012

Amazing, if you're really stumped to go with the 80 dollar sword vs the 60...go with the more expensive. The paint on hardwood scabbard is my favorite color, and they did not make me cringe, its just beautiful! The blade looks amazing, altho it prolly has more oil than one would need, but I clean my katanas every 3 weeks so this will be fine for now. Dont forget to pick up a Maintenance kit!!!
Feb 28, 2012

the extra twenty bucks really does go quite far, as the scabbard is laqured, the cotton wrapping is suprisingly tight (thats important to me), and the only thing thats seems machined about the blade is curve at the very tip of the blade. the tsuba and hilt cap are exquisite! domo arigato gozaimasu!!!
Jan 17, 2012

This katana is absolutely amazing! I cant believe that this sword is under $100. The detail is great and the finish on the Habaki had a little scuff on it, but that is my only complaint. The sword is extremely sharp and cuts well.
Jan 13, 2012

This sword is absolutely beautiful, especially considering the price.

- The says (scabbard/sheath) has a beautiful gloss finish, and you clearly can see the subtle patterns in the wood.
- The ito (wrap on the handle) is soft and tight, and it feels great in your hands.
- The blade is spectacularly crafted for the price, with a true non-machined hamon (edge of the blade). This blade easily slipped through a sheet of paper with very little force.
- The sword is very well-balanced, and is not top-heavy like some of my other swords.

If you are considering buying a $60 sword, I'd strongly recommend grabbing this model instead. I love my lower-priced Musashi/Musha blades as well, but this one is a clear step up and well worth the extra cost. This sword is an incredible value.

I also feel I should thank TrueSwords for making this product available at a great price, so thanks!
Nov 28, 2011

This is my first purchase from True Swords and just received this a few hours ago and i have to say it was everything i was hoping for and more! It came sharp, it looks amazing, and it's perfect for display or practice. Of course don't expect to cut through anything stellar just things you would normally cut with a katana or any other sword in this price range.

Everything i wanted and a lot extra, and it got here a day earlier than i expected!

Go True Swords, you've gained another loyal customer!
Oct 12, 2011

I just emailed trueswords.com thanking them for a wonderful product at a low price. The saya is beautiful, the sageo was tight, the ito was tight, nothing was loose, the hamon was true like the site said, as far as the edge....paper slicing sharp. I have yet to break it down but so far this sword is a STEAL for under 100 bucks. I have to comment on the little details the ray skin...love it....the wood grain still noticable....the bamboo in the iron all very beautiful. Love this sword.
Feb 04, 2011

I ordered this sword last weekend and I just recieved it a few minutes ago. With the weather being what is has been this week I understand why it was a few days late. Let me tell you it was worth the wait the workmanship and quality of this sword is amazing for under $100. It arrived razor sharpe and it truly is a warrior sword. Thanks True Swords I will be making another order in the near future.
Jan 19, 2011

This is an absolutely amazing sword. It has a well constructed and beautiful design. I've done quite a few cutting tests. It is in fact a very sharp blade and should be handled with care. I'd recommend this to any sword enthusiast. I'll post a video review of the blade on this website when I finish it.
Oct 09, 2010

A beautiful sword. The Balance and point of balance if fantastic. Razor sharp with a Georgous natural Hamon, and the musashi cirtificate makes this prized in my collection. This is a must have for any collector of sword lover. This is a great deal for such a fantastic sword. I love this sword.
Sep 28, 2010

this is my first sword so i was not expecting much but it is assume. there are only a few bad things the sysa is tit when trying to draw it but it can be fixed with time and when i revived it there was a patchy oil job and a lot of dirt on the blade. otherwise its a great blade for the price.
Aug 21, 2010

Beautiful piece , in my opinion. Everything fit very tight, and it came fairly sharp. Delivery was FAST, and the customer service is EXCELLENT. Thanks, guys.

Jul 16, 2010

Absolutely incredible! I haven't seen such workman ship since I was a kid living in Osaka. Beautiful! This will be a treasure I pass down to my children.
Feb 21, 2010

This katana is stunning! Buy it folks! You will not be disappointed!!!! Thanks again True Swords for both speedy delivery and high quality swords at non-bank breaking prices! And it even came with a coupon! My inner warrior is HAPPY!
Feb 13, 2010

This sword is amazing. Balance and weight distribution are far beyond a sword in this price range. Sharp as hell. Beautiful natural haymon, tight wrap, nice fittings. Highly recommended.
Jan 30, 2010

I am a knife collector and I know quality blades. This is my first sword and I can tell you this is not some made in Pakistan display item. This sword comes with documentation of the manufacturing procces, specifications, designer name and is serial numbered. This sword is more than I hoped it would be. Should be a lot more money.
Jan 29, 2010

hey guys just to keep it simple buy it and respect it because this blade can cut brick but it will scar it tho so in other wise excellent
Jan 28, 2010

I ordered my sword on the 20th of January, recieved it today on the 27th....I am very pleases with my purchase. I'ts my first sword, and I absolutely love it. Today I ordered the cold steel bokken and a cleaning kit. I just want to make sure that this sweet swords doesn't rust on me. All in all, it was a great buy.

So I ordered from from Ture Swords again today. I can see myself comming back for all my future needs.
Jan 21, 2010

I can not find words to describe this sword, I have been dying to get a Musashi sword and I am not disappointed.

There really is nothing to say, if you are looking into this sword, expect highly of it, and it will still impress you, sharp, reinforced steel, perfect curvature, and stunning looks overall.

If you are going to buy this sword, buy the Musashi cleaning kit aswell, because a sword like this deserves to be well kept.

5/5,

Just Perfect.
Oct 30, 2009

Incredible!....I ordered my Musashi Bamboo Warrior Sword (Red Saya) yesterday around noon, and I received it in less than 24 hours....what wonderful service!

I haven't had a chance to put it through it's paces cutting anything as yet, but in examining it, the workmanship is superb. Everything is tight fitting, the blade is razor sharp with authentic hamon, it is well-balanced, and it is a sturdy, battle-ready sword in every way (full-tang,1060 Carbon Steel, etc...) The saya is a beautiful burgundy color and well made, the blade is well-oiled, but with a quality shine, no dings or defects at all. The quality here really reflects a sword normally costing three times as much, and I am very, very pleased with this purchase.

The bonus of such fast shipping and careful preparation makes Trueswords one of the best of the best. I can't say enough about this company, and I will highly recommend Trueswords anytime. Definitely a 5 X 5 rating, if not higher!
Jul 22, 2009

Awesome sword! Came 4 days after I ordered, half the fun is watching the tracking online. The sword fits perfectly into the saya, the whole grip system is just perfect, from the rayskin to the insanely tight cord wrap. The tsuba is gorgeous, although I wish its finish matched the end cap and crown.

The blade.... came razor sharp out of the box, (which I quickly turned into cardboard ribbon) has a stunning REAL hamon. The waves arent symmetrical, but that just adds to the character of the blade. The pictures dont do the curvature of the blade justice. Im giving this 5 of 5 because were zombies to attack today, I feel safe knowing I have this in my arsenal.
Jul 02, 2009

i recently ordered this sword and i love it. the hamon is subtle and beautiful the fit and finish are also absolutley gorgeous although truth be told i thought i was ordering the dragon fury sword, this sword is worth every single penny that i paid for it and more. the moral of this story is True swords rocks
Jun 30, 2009

My second Bamboo Warrior. The first one impressed me so much, I got one for cutting and one for display. The red saya is actually a tasteful burgundy candy apple color, which shows the woodgrain when the light catches it right.

If you are considering your first katana, avoid stainless steel toys, and get a real sword. This one.

I have had problems with UPS and FEDEX damaging shipments, so True Swords added extra padding at no charge. True Swords will treat you right.
Jun 25, 2009

This i can honestly say is one of the best swords i have ever used it's deffinitley worth the price! I have used it before and altough be careful its VERY SHARP! I advize youe to bye this sword.
Jun 18, 2009

amazing true swords never disappoints me
tight fitting amazing detail real hamon u could spend easily three times as much some where else i love this sword
Jun 17, 2009

Wow i am speechless this is my 5th sword and the picture doesn't do the katana justice the blade is very well made and the elegant red is breathtaking all in all this sword should be worth way more than $80 a must have for collectors and fans of the color red
Mar 10, 2016

Great value for the money. Weight feels nice, tachi kaze is loud, the pics and video just don't do it justice. The tsuba is darker than what is shown in the pics, which I think makes it look nicer. The saya is well finished, very glossy, but is a fingerprint magnet, so if that bothers you get the black one. The kissaki is well defined, and looks proper, unlike those cheaper katana. My favorite part of the sword is the hamon, which really stands out against all the etched/brushed ones. There's just nothing like a true hamon. My biggest two complaints are the fact that the rayskin isn't perfectly meshed with the fuchigane, the part near the tsuba. And Etching on the Seppa. I think the etching would be better placed on the Nakago along with the craftsman's name. PROs Value for the money Tight fitting saya Loud Tachi Kaze Bohi (if you want a lighter katana) Good well defined Kissaki True Hamon/deferentially hardened Well oiled Saya is well finished, and fitted to the sword Great sword for customization work CONS Ray skin wrap isn't a perfect fit near the Tsuba. Mekugi pegs stick out a TINY bit too much Not as well polished and reflective slight rattle in the lower half of the Tsuka Maru/Muku kitae (mono steel, no lamination) Seppa has "China" and "Musashi" etched onto it.
Feb 22, 2014

Dear Sirs,
I would like to review the 1060 carbon steel Musashi line of Katana.
As far as value goes, these katana are a great deal for the money. With a real ray skin same and a true temper line these katana are a great budget entry for someone who wants to buy a katana and not break the bank.
These swords have bohi or blood groove and are a bit light for heavy cutting but for Iai Jutsu or Pool noodles and water bottles these swords are great.
The saya could be tougher as there is no protection for the bottom of the saya.I dip mine in a liquid rubber used to coat tool handles that can be found in most hardware stores.
Remove the handle and you will find the mei done with an engraver. The blade is numbered as is the handle and come with a certificate.
The handle is double pinned with bamboo mekugi.
Enjoy this blade,I enjoy mine.
Mar 17, 2011

Beautiful Sword for a ridiculously low price. The wood grain can be seen through the red finish on the saya which is a nice touch but also shows some knots in the wood. The brass fittings and iron tsuba are excellent quality for the price and the polish is reasonably even. The ito maki is very tight and even alternates, something I've only seen in one other Chinese reproduction katana. The sword is a little too light for Iaido practice but cuts very nicely. However, it took a set the first time I tried to cut with it. I was able to bend it back to almost straight. There are better low end swords out there but for this price and with a natural hamon, any sword enthusiast should own one.
Thank you, True Swords. :-)
Feb 25, 2011

This sword is beautiful and I love the design, weight and detail put into it. However the main problem is the disassembly, the very end of the blade being the part in which the hilt of the sword covers is slightly too wide for the guard and hilt making it very difficult to remove.

Removing it with the hands it nearly impossible, however upon looking around online I found a way to do so with no harm to the blade. Using a piece of wood specially carved to fit around the blade and press firmly against the guard, a few hits with a hammer and the hilt is pushed off without a problem.

Without this wooden tool however there is no way to remove the hilt for cleaning and oiling the blade.

A minor problem being the pegs that hold the hilt to the sword, however this is something to be expected as they are meant to hold the blade. Just place a small hammer tip that comes with a cleaning kit against the peg and a few taps with another hammer and they will pop out without problem.

If you do not mind these small set backs this sword if a beautiful piece and arrived fast and his battle ready, meaning the blades edge is very sharp.

4/5 for the minor set backs.
Feb 24, 2011

I ordered this mostly as "a wall piece that i could have fun with" it that's what i got. When i took it out of the box EVERYONE in my house instantly wanted to (can you believe it) touch the edge. Luckily no one got cut but I'm dissapointed with that. The "paper test" reviled that while the blade was really sharp, it wasn't exactly razer sharp. That and the hand guard not being easy to remove were the only things i was dissapointed with. The blade is nice and thick, there are no visible flaws (to me) and the hilt feels nice and tight, even after I took it off and put it back on.
Very sturdy build. Gread attention to detail and affordable.

This blade is a great buy and i recommend it, just know that swords aren't meant to be best quality when sold under $100.
Jul 15, 2010

This is a pretty good sword for the the money you are spending. there are acouple of things that i would like to point out in this review. For starters, to the ones that are watching this is the truth. The sword is of pretty high quality for a sword priced at 80 bucks, i wouldnt mind paying 150 for this. The blade has one of the most natrual hamons i have seen on a sword this price. The ha-saki is sharp straigt out of the box, all that needs to done is wipping it down and polishing it. Mine was a little dirty. The ito was pretty tightand the kashira was settled nicely. Now on to why this sword is not a five star. The tsuba is small, it doesnt cover my hand like over swords do. The sword it self is quite light and i found out that the blade is about 2mm thinner that a traditional sword. This worries me becuase the blade seems a little fragile and not able to withstand a lot of force. It can cut through light targets but nowhere near battle ready. On than that the sword is great for backyard cutting and maybe the zombie invasion.
Feb 19, 2010

The sword showed up today and it's wonderful. I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 because one of the collars is loose. The rest is great and controlled. I'm happy with with first sale with this company and I have plans for more. They are currently out of stock of a couple swords I want.
Feb 17, 2010

Finally received my Musashi Bamboo Warrior (Takeo) katana last night. After a few cuts last night, and taking it apart today, here is my review.

For the price, there is no sword like it.

Pros:
1. Real Hamon that is undisturbed and has a nice Boshi.
2. EXTREMELY well fitted Habaki
3. Nakago has nicely made Mei (on one side) and is full length with two bamboo mekugi.
4. Nice samegawa (although in strips)
5. Beautifully laquered Saya. The woodgrain is visible.
6. Tsuka had no cracks
7. Nice sized Tsuba (this is my opinion, others like it bigger)
8. Kashira, Menuki, and Fuchi all very simple, but match nicely.
9. Habaki and Koiguchi fit extremely well together.

Cons:
1. Tsuka Ito could be tighter, and the folds do not alternate. And it could be of better quality, it's a bit fuzzy. I will be rewrapping it before I use it seriously.
2. Seppa had "MUSASHI" printed on one side of the blade, and "China" on the other. This was quickly fixed by switching it with the other seppa, in which the fuchi covers it up. This could also be fixed by replacing the seppa altogether.
3. Sori isn't perfect
4. Cosmetic Yokote
5. Hamon is very faint, and will need a new polish to bring it out.
5. Sageo is a shoestring, and will be replaced.
6. The blade is a tad light for any serious cutting. Although on light targets, it's amazing.
7. Mei on one side is "SAMSUNG" real big. Definitely not needed. And an eyesore. That is, if you wish to display the blade without the tuska.

All in all... 4 out of 5 stars. Buy it!!! Seriously.
