I bought this pair of knives and I'm totally happy with them. The set is a gorgeous work of art. I will not take them hunting or even out on a hike, they're too beautiful for that. They were sharp upon arrival, not shave the hair of of your arm sharp, but sharp enough. Also I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sheath. Both knives slid into place. You can't beat the price for knives of this quality.
I was pleasantly surprised at how nice these knives are. They sharpened right up in less than five minutes with my diamond stone. The sheith is nice leather, a little oil made it darken right up. The small one I had to cut the top guard off and made some thumb grooves to be able to use it when working with small stuff, but the large one stayed just the way I got it. A great set! I will be taking these on my next outing and will be giving them a real test of a week in the woods, but they look like they will hold up just fine. I should have bought two sets.
Found both knives to be very handsome with impressive scales fitting very well. If whey were 4 times the price I would give them a rating of 4, but at the price, I would think it impossible to duplicate. I never consider the sheath, as a decent one would raise the cost of production prohibitively. I actually bought them to have these knives to make sheaths s for.
I have a collection of knives in sheaves hooked onto a curtain rod hanging in my office. This double bone handle set looks really great. I have 24 knives in my collection, 70% from Kennesaw.
Handling these Bowie knives brings out the country in me, the big sinful and the good looking bone handle. I will surely take them with me when I go out in the woods
This experience of buying these knives makes me want to be in the Mountains. It's just a great outdoors experience I love it.
The knives are very nice, the only issue is on the leather case they will not snap shut they did not make the straps long enough. Not sure what we can do about that otherwise overall it was a good buy. I have bought dozens of knives from BUDK
Great knife set at a great price. Both knives are sturdy, sharp, beautiful, and well balanced. They exceeded expectations by a mile, and I have and will continue to carry them everywhere! So very beautiful!
I recd this pair of beauties and I'm totally happy with them. First, the knives are "Simply Gorgeous". They fine works of art. No, I wouldn't take them out on a hike or use them to cut down saplings; they're too nice for that. They were very sharp upon arrival and have held their edge nicely. Secondly, I am very pleased with the quality of the sheath. Both knives fit snugly into place without cutting the leather and removing them is not a struggle. Finally, you can't beat the price for this pair of this quality. No, they aren't 'Gil Hibben-quality', but they're pretty damn close! Thanks BudK
Upon arrival I inspect all my knives closely. One word to describe this pair is beautiful. I like how the large knife fits my large hand and the bone handles look better than I had hoped for. They're good for display and I would use them on the trail but I won't. They come sharp but still need a bit more work. The other thing I like is they're not made in China. I consider Pakistan far better. I place these in my excellent category. Thanks again, BudK. LJP
I really didn't expect much as these are common Pakistani made knives, BUT. After close examination these are made quite nicely. They are not perfect, but very close. Mine arrived very sturdy, and nothing loose. The handles look very much like Ivory, which I like a lot. The blades were both marked, " made in Pakistan " at the top, and Timber wolf at the hilt. I found with some 600 grit wetdry sandpaper the blades could be polished to a mirror finish, easily erasing the Pakistani, and trademark. Afterwards the knives appear to be old handmade Ivory handled Bowies. I intend to Dye the Sheath Black for more contrast and beauty. These are too pretty to use, I plan on displaying them in my extensive collection.
OK. I had to send back my first order because the bigger Bowie did not fit in the sheath as it should have, and there were some defects with the bone handle and overall poor craftsmanship. I sent them back, no questions asked! No hassles! I received my second set, and was totally satisfied with it! As the review below, "Disappointed" says, these knives are so, so beautiful! For the price, you can't go wrong! Sure, the sheath is a 2.5-3.0, but the knives themselves are a solid 4.8-5.0, they're right up there! I am overall very pleased with these knives, and would recommend them.
Great set for the price. Very heavy and the sheath is worth the price alone. Does not come very sharp but with a little work I got it shaving sharp
When I recd these knives I was truly suprised. They are more attractive than the picture. After I sharpened them I could have shaved with them. Well made and nice sheave. Blade holds edge well. Absolutely worth the price.
I received this Bowie knife set for Christmas and all I can say is this thing is amazing, it looks and feels really good in the hand, it's pretty sharp to be honest, but my only con is the sheath. It was cut to wide for the main blade and it just rattles around in there and it's kind of annoying but it holds the smaller blade snug. Other than that I think this is a must buy for anyone's collection, a true work of art.
I bought one of these knife sets couple weeks ago. They are much better than I thought and am impressed with the workmanship quality. For the price this is an exceptional set of knives. Very sharp out of the box. Bought them for a early Xmas gift but now thinking of keeping them and buying another for Xmas gift.
To bring my last up to date; ("...A bit of tender finish with a fine stone,"), I put a 15-degree edge on the smaller knife and finished it with the finest stone. It will slice vegetables and meats now like a razor. Really pleased with it. On the larger one I'll put a 20-degree edge on it for the rougher jobs around camp. An excellent choice for a matched pair. :-) Just cannot believe the price. Thanks BudK!
Without repeating most of the prior comments, I'll just say this set is more than the image seems to portray. This is a serious set of knives. Stainless so the outback won't rust the blades, large knife for camp work, small knife for food preparation. They are both beefy enough to do the job, not just pretty pieces for show. Good bolsters keep your fingers off the blade no matter how vigorous you have to use them. Although they are a beautiful set, they are not a "cutie-pie" set of blades just for show. They are a serious belt set good for serious camping use. The leather case is beefy and well-made, with snap closures to retain each handle well against the rigors of everyday camp use. I am pleasantly surprised with this set. A bit of tender finish with a fine stone, and these blades are ready to go to work. :-)
A beautiful pair of knives. Nicely sharp right out of the box. Excellent heavy duty sheath; nicely tooled and constructed. Timber Rattler produces some of the best values on the market. I have purchased several of their other models; been pleased with all of them.
How can they make and produce such a quality knife at such a low price? The Sheath alone is worth the price! The knives are in a collector class! Timber Rattler and Budk! The Best resource for any serious knife collector Ina budget!
I recently purchased this combo set of bowie knives. The quality is outstanding for the price. They could have been a bit sharper but still a great value !!! Thanks again BUDK !!!
Very pleased, very nice finish, great looking guards, and camel bone scales, seems very sturdy(too pretty to be worked hard),but look like they could take it,a few minutes with a fine stone, and steel hone, and they shave nicely(gotta quit sharpening new knives and let the hair on my arm grow back ! This set replaces the honking big Timber Rattler all stainless, with wood grip set(love that set as well) o)- Hawkens, and black powder revolvers) it might be hard to beat these sets for the price, and the carbon steel, and Buffalo bone Kentucky Bowie,is one very pretty, and buisness like little knife as well( I adore that one) also have the $12.00 Buffalo bone Bowie,-a little playing with the handle scales(rounding off),and sharpening, makes another nice knife, that's not too pretty to use a bit,but still nice looking, and foe the price... I have yet to be disappointed with anything from BudK,,canteens, poncho's,and cook kit included.
The double knife sheath is unique It is a conversation starter as well as being a set of good looking and sharp knives
Excellent set. I Love it. The sheath is made well. Knives were sharp right out of the box. Both my boys saw it they wanted it. So now I'll order 2 more. They will make great Christmas gifts. Can be used as hunting knives. or display. Price can't be beat.
A great set to add to my collection. This is sharp right out of the box. Almost to nice to use
I purchased this combo a gift for a friend. It came and I was thrilled with it. The brass was flawless and the handles were beautiful. The sheath holds both knives securely and its comfortable on the belt. My friend loved the set. We both agree its a great hunting combo.
Recently, I purchased this set of Bowie Knives. They are sharp right out of the box. Very nice addition to my Regalia. These knives are everything you said they are. Thank You BUDK!
This set is not quite as polished as some of the reviews led me to believe. For the money it's a beautiful pair to put on display, but there are a few caked in gaps and cracks (all are fixed up nicely). Sheath is oversized for the biggun, kinda just rolls around in there showing a couple inches of blade every time you sit down. And they're stainless so I probably wouldn't cut more than a steak with it. Still, dang pretty.
They're good showpiece knives as long as you don't look at them too closely. Pros: - The leather sheath is beautiful. - The handles are attractive and feel nice and smooth. - The knives look well-crafted and stunning when you look at them from a few feet away. Cons: - When I examined the edges of both blades they were nicked in several places and uneven. It's as if someone had carelessly used these knifes or the manufacturer did not smooth the blade edge enough. - The larger blade actually cuts into some of the sheath when you sheath it. It's like the sheath was designed for a smaller knife. - When my knives arrived there was a light coating of something sticky on the knives and sheath. I don't know what it was but I cleaned it up easily.
I bought this and it said sharp but I didn't expect it to be and it wasn't it's really dull but I sharpened it and I have to say I love this set they are not only beautiful but useable to so I'm probably going to carry these the most out of the ridge runner Montana toothpick and the timber outlaw Bowie that I bought with this
The only thing that saved this knife set from getting 1 start rating from me was that the knives look beautiful and they came very sharp out the box. Other wise the sheath did not secure the larger knive at all. The snaps were lose and flimsy and if I turn the sheath upside down the knife would fall out. Also on the larger knife the gaurd was extremely lose and the blade would rattle as if it was lose when I would tap my knuckle on it. The smaller one rattled as well but the gaurd on that was good
