The quality of this harness is better than expected for faux leather. It actually does feel like leather. My only gripe is the back strap is not one continuous piece. They joined 2 halves together with two rivets and I can definitely feel them on my spine. It's quite annoying. I don't know if they all come this way or I just happened to order one that was scabbed together.

The description said "faux leather" ... I was thinking it might be the cheap "pleather" used in kids Halloween gear, but I was surprised at the high quality of this product. It looks & feels like leather (and even has that new leather smell). So far, it's held up great. Would definitely recommend this product

Worth the money, I don't understand why people say they can't draw from the back, I have no problem doing that. It makes my katana look very nice.

May 14, 2019

Works well, strap could be twice as wide. Katanas fit nicely, easy to pull out. Must use it with a sword with a scabbard in order to pull out the sword. Be nice if they came out with a dual sword one.

Very comfortable and it looks and feels amazing. I like the feel of the Imitation leather and it also came in pretty quickly too. I definitely would recommend to others on getting it. Only issue I had was that its hard to draw from your back while strapped on. Maybe not right for Katana sized sword but I bet it will work well with the wakizashi.
Feb 03, 2016

The materials are all good, but it needs to be a lot tighter. I have it set to be as tight as possible but it needs more. I can draw both of my katanas from it just fine, but getting them back in is not possible.

I ordered my shoulder harness on Monday and it got here on Saturday at noon I got it to put on my black shinwa ninjato which I also got from BUDK the shoulder harness looks good its black to match my sword and even though it's imitation leather it smells like new leather! It has the united cutlery logo on it and looks really good. The only bad thing about it is im 5ft 8in tall with 29' waist its a lil big for me and hangs loose I'm gonna have to punch some extra holes to tighten it up to fit me perfect but that's not really a problem so all N all I'm happy and I get to start shopping for the next product I'm gonna get from BUDK !!! I recommend this shoulder harness !

Excellent product and very fast delivery. The "imitation leather" is like a very thick rubber and appears to be very durable. Although a katana would be virtually impossible to draw from the back, my wakizashi fits, wears, and draws perfectly!

Well made leather strap system. I applied one on the musashi 1060 carbon steel sword scabbard and the Ultraviolet sword scabbard and they fit perfect. The straps I pulled as tight as I could and there is no slippage at all. I ran with them on my back and jumped up and down a few times. Highly recommend these. They will even fit on some shotguns and rifles. Well done again True Swords.

This shoulder harness works not only with asian swords, but european swords as well. I can have it on all day in comfort. I highly recommend this product.

I have had the system for nearly a year, so I’ve had adequate time to evaluate it. I believe the shoulder would be more comfortable if wider and should be of better material as the shoulder strap cracked. Fortunately there are many leather craftsmen in my country and had a new one made of leather. I was looking for something to carry a katana hands free and out of the way and this system works well.

While finding no true faults with this carry device other than the strap material I have to take exception to those who posted in their review that the sword cannot be drawn with the Back Strap in place. It is also possible to remove the carrying device from the back and draw, but that is cumbersome and unnecessary. I have said before that the draw can be done from the back and people continue to post otherwise. Below is a short video I made and should convince the inept it is possible, and should carry more weight than my written statement.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Dia8753FA
This was my first buy from True Swords (for a bokken w/wooden sheath that I've had for a while) and I love it to death. The only problem I have with it is that when the sword is on my back, I have a difficult time drawing it all the way out of the sheath (and re-sheathing it too, but that's all a matter of practice imo).

I am very happy with this buy. It works pefectly. Nice durable leather strap. I was also impresed witht the fact that its made from United Cutlery. It looks like it will be able to fit a wide veriety of swords. from a templar sword to a samurai sword. I am impressed and pleased with my but. The front strap could be a little more wide, but thats just me. A very good buy. Its very worth it!!

I must say that when I ordered this backstrap, I expected cheap leather, cheap workmanship, and the like. I basically expected your typical flea-market, Pakistani item. (Nothing against Pakistan at all, I've just noticed that a lot of cheaply made swords and sword accessories that ARE NOT battle-ready say "made in Pakistan," and it is a logo I have come to avoid simply because they're not battle-ready.)

But I was WRONG!!!

This backstrap is made from amazing quality leather - very thick, well put together. It's definitely NOT cheap quality. It's made by UNITED CUTLERY!!!!!!!!!!

...Let me say that again - UNITED CUTLERY!

It fits and holds my katana very well. I am HIGHLY impressed with this product! Its dimensions will accomodate the very large to the very thin wearer. I am thin, and added my own holes on the chest strap (which buckles) for that custom fit.

The picture is slightly misleading because it appears that the top part of the strap connects about 2/3 of the way up, but it is actally attached right behind the top buckle (where it should be). The only con is that I would prefer the bottom part of the strap to attach to the SIDE of the holder instead of in the back. It would be more ergonomic that way, but I AM NOT complaining!

I am very pleased with my decision to purchase this. The old belt-and-hemp-wrap system I had rigged up was nowhere near as comfortable!

Just a tip - You should attach the sword so that the curve is as it's shown in the photograph, NOT as it's shown in the drawing. As with resting on a stand, the katana's arch should ALWAYS point skyward to avoid cutting of the inside of the scabbard. (think of the shape of a frown).

This thing is awesome! I bought a sword that already included its own custom strap system and this one is definitely better quality, plus you can easily arrange to have multiple swords on at once if you buy two of these. This strap is made by United cutlery, which I value to be one of the higher quality manufacturers, right under Cold Steel. Easily adjustable, easy to move if you need to make a little slack to get the sword out of the sheath from behind your back.

I've had my back strap for a few years now. The quality of the system is actually rather nice - I've had no problems with any stitching, no problems with the buckles and such. The leather has held up nice, despite a minimum of attention.

However, the one problem I have with it is that it's proven entirely impractical. The sword does not rest low enough, perhaps? The result is that the sword cannot be drawn while wearing this as the picture shows.

That being said, it is still rather useful if you don't mind carrying the blade over your shoulder, as you would a rifle.

This is an ok blackstrap only things is drawing the sword out and back in is probably impossible other than that it's good for transporting from place to place.
Nov 29, 2011

It serves its intended purpose admirably, which is to sling a sword over the back. The false leather material is stiff but durable; unfortunately, the straps aren't the most comfortable in the world for the same reason.

For those trying to draw swords from the back, movie- or videogame- style -sorry, no can do. Just not designed for that.

the back strap is awsome and i love it to death. only one flaw so far the chest strap is skinny so after awile it starts to annoy me due to the thinness. i hope they make a second line of this strap with a thicker chest strap. very awsome and worth wat i paid for it.u should get one its worth it. i wore it for a 6 hr hike to test it. its cool dont buy anything else its very well built though. get it u'll need one.

I've had this thing for about a week now and the strap is beginning to come apart. gluing it to make it stay may be ideal.

Possibly not the best matarial but I suppose this is what you get for $15+

A pretty good strap. It's still a little big for me. The top strap could've been moverd up a bit more.

I bought this to go with my Halloween costume for a sword I bought which happen to be the anime fantasy sword with scabbard. I'm able to wear it but I can not draw my sword at all which is disappointing. I think it is made only for samurai swords.

Very convenit but only seems to work best with katanas. I tried it with a ninjato and it didn't work too well.
